GREEN LIGHT NEW ORLEANS INVESTS ENERGY IN PEOPLE AND ASSISTS NEW ORLEANS RESIDENTS IN PERSON, ONE HOUSEHOLD AT A TIME. IN 2019, THE ORGANIZATION HAS INSTALLED 340 RAIN BARRELS AT 275 NEW ORLEANS RESIDENCIES AND HAS EDUCATED OVER 1000 VOLUNTEERS AND 700 RESIDENTS ON RAIN WATER MANAGEMENT. THE BARRELS RETAIN 17,000 GALLONS OF WATER PER RAIN EVENT.
IN 2019, THE ORGANIZATION HAS MAINTAINED TWO COMMUNITY GARDENS AND INSTALLED 19 BACKYARD VEGETABLE GARDENS AND PURCHASED THE LAND OF ONE OF THE COMMUNITY GARDENS.
THE ORGANIZATION INSTALLS FREE ENTERGY EFFICIENT CFL BULBS IN HOMES IN THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS AREA. IN 2019, THE ORGANIZATION HAS SERVED 162 HOMES WITH LIGHT BULBS. IN 2019, THE PROGRAM GENERATED ENERGY SAVINGS OF 1,168,210 KWH, A REDUCTION OF 1.3 MILLION LBS OF CO2 and A FINANCIAL BENEFIT TO FAMILIES IN THE VALUE OF $136,000. THROUGH ITS EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION HAS EDUCATED SEVERAL HUNDRED STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY.
