PROMOTE THE COMMON GOOD AND THE GENERAL WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE OF LOUISIANA THROUGH THE ADVANCEMENT OF REVERENCE FOR HUMAN LIFE BY REAFFIRMING THE PRINCIPLE THAT ALL HUMAN BEINGS FROM THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION ARE CREATED EQUAL AND ARE ENDOWED WITH CERTAIN RIGHTS AMONG WHICH IS THE RIGHT TO LIFE.
> LOUISIANA RIGHT TO LIFE (LARTL) EDUCATED IN-PERSON 11,638 STUDENTS IN 2019 < THROUGH OUR YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAM AND PRO-LIFE 101 PRESENTATIONS, IN 2019, LARTL EDUCATED 11,638 AT SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES (NOT TO MENTION THE THOUSANDS MORE THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA). OTHER HIGHLIGHTS DURING 2019 INCLUDED: 1)GEAUX FORTH 2019: LARTL HOSTED THIS TENTH ANNUAL EVENT IN WASHINGTON, D.C., WHICH WAS PROJECTED TO DRAW MORE THAN 1,400 LOUISIANA HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE NATION'S CAPITOL FOR THE MARCH FOR LIFE. 2) WITH THE PULSE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE SESSION IN 2019, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF TRAINING SESSIONS HELD SINCE 2010 IS: 10 - THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PLI STUDENTS TRAINED IS MORE THAN 562. LARTL HOSTED TWO PULSE IMMERSION WEEKENDS, AND 90 STUDENTS WERE TRAINED AT THE TWO CAMPS TO BE PRO-LIFE LEADERS. THIS BRINGS THE TOTAL IMMERSION WEEKENDS TO 31 SINCE 2008 AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS TRAINED TO MORE THAN 1,179. ALSO, DURING 2019, THERE WERE 11 ACTIVE COLLEGE PRO-LIFE GROUPS. ADDITIONALLY, WE CONTINUED TO STAGE PULSE RALLIES AND TEAM MEETINGS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. 3) THE HIGH SCHOOL ORATORY CONTEST WAS HELD IN MAY IN BATON ROUGE AND A SHREVEPORT TEEN TOOK STATE HONORS AND THEN REPEATED HER FIRST PLACE SUCCESS AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL. THROUGH THE ELEVEN ACTIVE PRO-LIFE GROUPS ON LOUISIANA COLLEGE CAMPUSES, STUDENTS FOR LIFE'S DYNAMIC STUDENT-LED LEADERSHIP IS ENGAGING COLLEGE STUDENTS IN PRO-LIFE ISSUES THROUGH WEEKLY MEETINGS AND IN A ONE-ON-ONE MANNER.
> LARTL CONTINUES GENERAL PRO-LIFE EDUCATION MESSAGE THROUGH A MULTITUDE OF EFFORTS < 2019 MARKED THE FIFTH FULL YEAR OF OUTREACH TO THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY. UNDER DR. KATHY ALLEN AND ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, JONATHAN BURTON, LOUISIANA BLACK ADVOCATES FOR LIFE (LA BAL) CONTINUED ITS OUTREACH TO SCHOOLS, CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS AS WELL AS INTERACTING WITH BLACK MALES IN THE BLACK PRO-LIFE ADVOCACY PROGRAM. --- ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2019 INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: 1) LARTL LAUNCHED THE "HOPE EDUCATION PROGRAM," AN EFFORT AIMED AT EDUCATING PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPTION OF INFANT ADOPTION. EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS IN 2019 FOCUSED ON JEFFERSON PARISH (COUNTY) SCHOOLS, SHOWING STUDENTS THAT ADOPTION IS A POSITIVE OPTION FOR THEM AND THEIR BABY WHEN FACED WITH AN UNPLANNED PREGNANCY. 2) A SUCCESSFUL 6TH ANNUAL "CHERS BEBES SOIREE" BENEFITING PRO-LIFE EDUCATION IN ACADIANA. 3) 2ND) OUTREACH AT THE LA. STATE FAIR; 4) PRAYER BREAKFASTS IN SHREVEPORT & PINEVILLE TO SUPPORT LIFE MARCHES & LARTL EFFORTS; 5) CONTINUED USE OF VARIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA AND PRO-LIFE EDUCATION METHODS; AND 6) THE LUMINARY: THREE EDITIONS KEPT PEOPLE INFORMED OF PRO-LIFE ISSUES AND CURRENT EVENTS.
> ACTIVISM AND LEGISLATION INITIATIVES < - ACTIVISM: THE LOUISIANA LIFE MARCHES (LLM)CONTINUED TO BRING TOGETHER THE PRO-LIFE PEOPLE OF LOUISIANA. IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2019, A RECORD OF MORE THAN 20,000 PERSONS TOOK PART IN THE LLM EVENTS IN BATON ROUGE, SHREVEPORT, PINEVILLE, MONROE AND LAKE CHARLES. THE THEME FOR THE MARCHES WAS "LOUISIANA LOVES LIFE." PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED PERSONS OF ALL AGES, RACES AND DENOMINATIONS, AND PARTICIPANTS RALLIED WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO PROTECT MOTHER AND CHILD AGAINST THE TRAGEDY OF ABORTION. OTHER AREAS OF ACTIVISM WERE: 1) LIFE CHAINS, HELD THROUGHOUT LOUISIANA IN OCTOBER, A NATIONAL PRAYER EFFORT WHILE SHARING THE PRO-LIFE MESSAGE WITH PASSERSBY; 2) 40 DAYS FOR LIFE HELD IN N.O., BATON ROUGE, AND SHREVEPORT - AN ANNUAL VIGIL OUTSIDE ABORTION FACILITIES. AT BATON ROUGE, 14 WOMEN CHOSE LIFE FOR THEIR BABIES. 3) 3RD PooDat DIAPER DRIVE HELD IN NEW ORLEANS AND BATON ROUGE AT FIVE GROCERY STORES AND PERSONS GAVE OVER 10,000 DIAPERS TO NEW ORLEANS' ACCESS PREGNANCY CENTER DIAPER BANK. 4) LARTL CONTINUED ITS CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT AND LOCAL AREA ASSISTANCE ACTIVITIES; AND 5) LARTL CONTINUES WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO ENSURE ABORTION FACILITIES FOLLOW LAWS PASSED. > LEGISLATION ACTIVITY < - A KEY ELEMENT OF LOUISIANA RIGHT TO LIFE'S MISSION IS THE PROTECTION OF LIFE IN BATON ROUGE AT THE STATE LEGISLATURE. THE 2019 SESSION WAS HIGHLIGHTED BY THE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION THAT PLACED A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT (KNOWN AS "THE LOVE LIFE" AMENDMENT) ON THE 2020 BALLOT SCHEDULE THAT, IF PASSED, WOULD ENSURE THAT THE STATE CONSTITUTION CANNOT BE CONSTRUED TO PROTECT A RIGHT TO ABORTION. THE SESSIONS ALSO SAW THE PASSAGE OF THE HEARTBEAT BILL. LARTL HELD ITS ANNUAL PRO-LIFE DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL ON APRIL 23 AND THERE WERE DISPLAYS PUT UP BY PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTERS & OTHER PRO-LIFE AGENCIES AROUND THE STATE. - 2019 ALSO SAW THE U.S. SUPREME COURT ACCEPT ORAL ARGUMENTS IN THE JUNE MEDICAL SERVICES VS. RUSSO CASE BASED UPON THE 2014 LARTL-SPONSORED LAW CALLED THE UNSAFE ABORTION PROTECTION ACT. WE CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE FOR FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO ADVANCE PRO-LIFE ISSUES AND STOP PRO-ABORTION LEGISLATION, AS WELL AS MONITOR THE FEDERAL COURTS AND COURT CASES.
