PROFESSIONAL ENSEMBLE THEATRE COMPANY

THE NOLA PROJECT'S 2019-20 FISCAL YEAR BEGAN IN JULY 2019 WITH THE PRODUCTION OF OUR ANNUAL SUMMER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, THE NOLA PROJECT HIGH SCHOOL INSTITUTE. A COMBINATION OF CLASSES AND REHEARSALS, THE PROGRAM CULMINATED IN A WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTION OF ZOOKEEPERS IN CAPTIVITY, A NEW PLAY BY LOCAL AUTHOR JAMES BARTELLE. IN SEPTEMBER, TNP PARTNERED WITH PLAY ON SHAKESPEARE AND THE NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART TO PRESENT THE WORLD PREMIERE TRANSLATION OF MEASURE FOR MEASURE BY IRANIAN WRITER ADITI KAPIL. THE PRODUCTION WAS PRESENTED INSIDE THE MUSEUM'S GREAT HALL AND PLAYED TO MORE THAN 1000 NEW ORLEANIANS. IN OCTOBER, WE PRESENTED OUR THIRD CONSECUTIVE WORLD PREMIERE WITH A BRAND NEW OUTDOOR ADAPTATION OF THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, PRESENTED IN NOMA'S BESTHOFF SCULPTURE GARDEN. THEN IN JANUARY 2020, TNP PARTNERED WITH THE CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER NEW ORLEANS TO PRESENT THE REGIONAL PREMIERE OF SIGRID GILMER'S HARRY AND THE THIEF, AN AFROFUTURISTIC TALE OF HARRIET TUBMAN'S JOURNEY UP THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD. IN BETWEEN THESE MAJOR PRODUCTIONS, TNP PRESENTED OUR MONTHLY NEW PLAY READING SERIES ROUGH DRAUGHTS, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NOLA BREWING COMPANY, TO PATRONS FREE OF CHARGE ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH. SADLY, TNP'S ARTISTIC OPERATIONS WERE SUDDENLY HALTED IN MARCH 2020 WITH THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THOUGH THE ORGANIZATION HAS REMAINED RESILIENT, SHIFTING OUR FOCUS TO DIGITAL CONTENT CREATION AND STAFF RETENTION, WE VERY MUCH HOPE TO RETURN TO THE LIVE STAGE IN SUMMER 2021.

SUMMER 2018 SAW THE FOURTH ANNUAL NOLA PROJECT HIGH SCHOOL INTENSIVE GEARED TOWARDS LOCAL TEENS INTERESTED IN THEATRE ARTS. FOR FOUR WEEKS IN JULY, STUDENTS RANGING FROM AGE 13-18 TAKE CORE CLASSES IN MOVEMENT, CHARACTER, TECHNIQUE, AND VOICE & SPEECH, IN ADDITION TO SPECIALIZED MASTER CLASSES AND REHEARSALS FOR A FULLY-PRODUCED PRODUCTION AT THE PROGRAM'S END. THE PROGRAM FEATURED TWO TRACKS OF VARYING SKILL DEGREES FOR STUDENTS, RESULTING IN AN INCREASED CAPACITY FOR STUDENT ATTENDANCE, AND A DEEPENING OF SKILLSETS LEARNED BY OLDER STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM IS A FULL DAY PROGRAM RUNNING 9AM-4PM AND OFFERS SEVERAL STUDENTS FULL AND PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS IN ORDER TO INCREASE ACCESS FOR ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF INCOME LEVELS.
