Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE PELICAN CENTER DEVELOPED THE INFRASTRUCTURE TO CARRY OUT ITS MISSION AND VISION OF DEVELOPING A COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM FOR CHILD WELFARE PRACTITIONERS, INCLUDING JUDGES, LAWYERS FOR CHILDREN AND INDIGENT PARENTS, CHILD WELFARE AGENCY STAFF, COURT ADVOCATES AND OTHERS. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STATE CHILD WELFARE AGENCY AND A CONSORTIUM OF THE PUBLIC UNIVERSITY SCHOOLS OF SOCIAL WORK IN LOUISIANA TO ESTABLISH THE LOUISIANA CHILD WELFARE TRAINING ACADEMY. IN ADDITION, THE PELICAN CENTER DEVELOPED A CHILD WELFARE TRAINING CATALOG, ADMINISTERS THE LOUISIANA COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM AND COORDINATES THE ANNUAL, STATEWIDE "TOGETHER WE CAN" CHILD WELFARE CONFERENCE. LAUNCHED A "MY COMMUNITY CARES" INITIATIVE IN FOUR PILOT PARISHES WHICH ENVISIONS A STATE WHERE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE SAFE, STABLE, AND SELF-SUFFICIENT: ONE FAMILY AND ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME.
TO DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM FOR CHILD WELFARE PRACTITIONERS.
PELICAN CENTER TRAINING: TRAINING TO INCLUDE CHILD WELFARE BASICS, CULTURAL CONSCIOUSNESS, MOSAIC DIMENSION AND SAFETY DECISION MAKING. TRAINING INCLUDES BOTH LIVE AND ONLINE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING. PROFESSIONAL CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS ARE OFFERED TO TRAINEES. MY COMMUNITY CARES INITIATIVE ENVISIONS A STATE WHERE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE SAFE, STABLE, AND SELF-SUFFICIENT: ONE FAMILY AND ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME.
COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM - BASIC PROGRAM: COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM JUDICIAL FELLOW, IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR CHILDREN AND INDIGENT PARENTS AND SUPPORTING ADVOCACY FOR CHILDREN, SUPPORT EFFORTS TO ENSURE A COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATE FOR EVERY CHILD WHO NEEDS ONE. PARTICIPATED IN THE STATE'S FEDERAL CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES REVIEW AND RESULTANT PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT PLAN, WHICH IDENTIFIED ADDITIONAL TRAINING NEEDS THAT WILL BE DEVELOPED AND DELIVERED BY THE PELICAN CENTER.
