uCC's Pipeline Development Program involves the active recruitment and selection of apprentices prior to their enrollment in the program and a range of efforts to build the pipeline for more youth to inevitably enter into the construction industry and workforce at large as a result of their contact with the organization. Each semester, uCC hosts at least 2 recruitment events at each of our six partnering schools, such as information sessions, during school career fairs, back to school nights, in-cass sessions and the like. In the FY2018-19 uCC engaged at least 300 individual students through these outreach efforts which introduce them to a range of career pathways, training opportunities, and obtaining employment in construction.
Through HIRE UNCOMMON, uCC breaks off a small group of enrolled apprentices for a differentiated program. Through this program, youth travel to off-site locations to perform work for clients such as homeowners, residents, community organizations and businesses. The Hire unCommon program more closely replicates the conditions of working in the industry by creating opportunities for youth to engage directly with clients with more focus on quality and customer service. In the FY2018-19, uCC included larger-scale Hire unCommon projects,, involving all enrolled apprentices.
