MISSOURI SLOPE AREAWIDE (MSA) UNITED WAY UNITES PEOPLE AND RESOURCES TO BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY. WORKING SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH THE COMMUNITY, MSA UNITED WAY TAKES ON THE BIGGEST, MOST COMPLEX ISSUES FACING BISMARCK-MANDAN AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. OUR UNITED APPROACH CHANGES THE ODDS FOR THE CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND INDIVIDUALS IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND MOVES THEM OUT OF POVERTY.

ALLOCATION PAYMENTS TO PARTICIPATING UNITED WAY BENEFICIARY AGENCIES.EDUCATION, MENTORING, A STABLE HOME LIFE, AND JOBS - MSA UNITED WAY FIGHTS POVERTY THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS AND INVESTMENTS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD ENTERS SCHOOL READY TO SUCCEED, ARE READING AT GRADE LEVEL, AND GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL ON TIME. MSA UNITED WAY STABILIZES HOMES OF AT-RISK STUDENTS BY PROVIDING SUPPORTIVE SERVICES SUCH AS CASE MANAGEMENT, HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE, MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND MENTORS TO INCREASE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND IMPROVE BEHAVIORS. MSA UNITED WAY INVESTS IN PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE ACADEMIC OUTCOMES AND ASSIST THOSE LIVING IN POVERTY WITH FINDING AND RETAINING EMPLOYMENT. MSA UNITED WAY HELPED 147 LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WHO WERE ENROLLED IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN BURLEIGH COUNTY. 52,000 BOOKS WERE DELIVERED TO 4,441 LOCAL PRESCHOOLERS. PARENTS OF 24 CHILDREN LIVING IN LOW-INCOME FAMILIES RECEIVED CHILDCARE AND PRESCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS. 47 CARS AND 52 REPAIRS WERE PROVIDED TO HELP INDIVIDUALS MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT AND INDEPENDENCE.THESE PAYMENTS INCLUDE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM DONORS FOR SPECIFIC AGENCIES. MSA UNITED WAY RESPONSIBLY FULFILLS DONOR INTENT.

UNITED WAY BACKPACK PROGRAM.MSA UNITED WAY FIGHTS HUNGER BY ADMINISTERING THE UNITED WAY BACKPACK PROGRAM, PROVIDING MORE THAN 1,000 BACKPACKS EVERY OTHER WEEKEND FULL OF FOOD TO STUDENTS IN BISMARCK-MANDAN. MSA UNITED WAY HELPED TO SERVE 19,999 MEALS IN 7 PARKS TO BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. 342 VOLUNTEERS ASSISTED IN THE PARKS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. ADDITIONALLY, MSA UNITED WAY INVESTS IN SENIOR CENTERS. A TOTAL OF 2,119,842 MEALS WERE PROVIDED. MSA UNITED WAY LEADS A THINK TANK WITH THE GOAL OF ENDING HUNGER IN THE COMMUNITY.

HOMELESS SHELTER.IN OCTOBER OF 2017, A MAJOR LOCAL EMERGENCY HOMELESS SHELTER SHUT DOWN, LEAVING MANY WITHOUT NEEDED FOOD, SHELTER, AND RESOURCES. UNITED WAY STEPPED UP AND BEGAN PROVIDING EMERGENCY SHELTER THROUGHOUT THE FRIGID WINTER MONTHS AND MEETING WITH THE HOMELESS NIGHTLY. UNITED WAY KEPT 224 MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN WARM AND SAFE BY PROVIDING 1,199 NIGHTS OF SHELTER THROUGH DECEMBER 2017. AS THE NEED FOR SHELTER AND ASSISTANCE CONTINUED IN OUR COMMUNITY, UNITED WAY WAS ABLE TO OPEN AN EMERGENCY SHELTER FACILITY IN MARCH 2018.
