CARES ACT GRANT PROGRAM: The purpose of the CARES Act grant program is to provide general operating support to cultural organizations whose programs have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants are meant to help these organizations maintain their public humanities programs and retain their core employees. The NDHC offered 3 types of grants: Small grants ($5,000 or less), Large grants (greater than $5,000 but no more than $10,000), and state-wide grants (greater than $10,000 but no more than $75,000). The NDHC awarded 9 small grants, 9 large grants and 6 state-wide grants.
HUMANITIES PROJECT GRANTS: Grants were awarded to non-profit organizations across North Dakota which supported public humanities projects (such as history, language, literature, philosophy, ethics, jurisprudence, archaeology, comparative religion, art history & criticism, ethnic studies, social sciences, etc.). The NDHC has two types of grants available for humanities projects: quick grants ($1,500 or less) and large grants (greater than $1,500). The NDHC awarded 13 quick grants and 6 large grants (a total of 19 grants).
ON SECOND THOUGHT MAGAZINE: The "On Second Thought" magazine is designed to give the general public a humanities perspective on current issues in an entertaining and highly readable format.
