Organizations Filed Purposes: Strengthen ND supports rural North Dakota by 1) building nonprofit and rural community capacity; 2) advancing regional issues; and 3) facilitating community solutions. Our most significant activities are one-on-one contract work and workshops/trainings.

Building Nonprofit and Rural Community Capacity Strengthen ND's cornerstone service is the workshops and programs we provide as professional development for nonprofit professionals, volunteers, and community leaders. In the fall of 2020, we received a $85,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Trust and a $74,000 grant from The Bush Foundation. These grants provide staff time to create online content modules, develop and host small and large group workshops, and organize and conduct a six-month certificate program focused on nonprofit management and administration. This work serves as a recruitment mechanism for more lucrative one-on-one engagements, which are described in the "facilitating community solutions" program. As the grants were received in the fall of 2020, they have not been spent out, yet.

Advancing Regional Issues Strengthen ND seeks to advance regional issues. We do this through researching, writing, and disseminating white papers and other materials regarding emerging rural community needs throughout North Dakota. Through this service avenue, we are also supporting the creation of the North Dakota Local Foods Development Alliance to seek information to support economic development through local foods.

Facilitating Community Solutions Strengthen ND facilitates community solutions in rural North Dakota in a myriad of ways, including but not limited to leading strategic planning, action planning, and community planning; supporting fundraising planning; providing grant writing support and technical assistance for local grantmakers; serving as a North Dakota expert for a regional systems change program, and serving as a fiscal sponsor. Additionally in the summer of 2020, we received a $100,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support narrative change. As the grant was received in the summer of 2020, the funds are in a temporarily restricted account and have not been spent, yet.
