To provide equipment and financial support for the advancement of medical, scientific, nursing, and health care delivery for Good Samaritan Hospital Association Rugby, ND.
Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation's mission is to support the mission of Good Samaritan Hospital Association to "advance the physical and spiritual wellbeing of the communities we serve ." Foundation board members and staff support that mission primarily through fundraising and by acting as goodwill ambassadors for GSHA. The Foundation solicits, documents and manages donations from individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations and foundations, making sure donor-designated contributions are spent as directed. The Foundation director seeks grants in support of GSHA's strategic plan and helps to manage grants once they are received. In FY20, the Foundation secured more than $325,000 in grants for GSHA (most going directly into GSHA bank accounts). The Foundation hosts two fundraisers each year, a social and an annual golf tournament. The annual Creations Auction & Dinner raised funds for Heart of America Hospice, the largest amount raised in its 20-year history. The FY20 Charity Golf Classic kicked off a successful fundraising campaign for a new ambulance. Back in FY18 Golf Classic proceeds were designated to establish a Cancer Patient Care Fund for cancer patients in the GSHA service area, but the funds raised remained untouched until FY20 when the Foundation started promoting the program to patients and providers. Ten individuals received $8,439 through the Cancer Patient Care Fund in FY20. The Foundation selected the Cancer Patient Care Fund as the cause for its first ever Greatest Needs Gala and although the event to be held in early FY21 had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, by the end of FY20 the "Gala-less Gala" had generated $4,000 for the Fund. The Foundation manages three investment accounts in support of GSHA. Embedded in investments was a small fund established in 2003 to fund the Carol Shively Memorial Scholarship. In FY20, to show its support for local individuals pursing degrees in nursing, the Foundation board voted to fund the $500 scholarship in perpetuity.
