Organizations Filed Purposes: AS THE LARGEST PRIVATE, NOT-FOR-PROFIT COMMUNITY HABILITATION PROGRAM IN NEVADA, OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE SERVES PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES BY PROVIDING VOCATIONAL TRAINING, COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT, DAY SERVICES, ADVOCACY, ARTS AND SOCIAL RECREATION. HERE, PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES ARE ABLE TO FIND NEW FRIENDS, REALIZE FUTURE CAREER PATHS, SEEK INDEPENDENCE AND COMMUNITY INTERACTIONS AND UNLEASH CREATIVE PASSIONS.

OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE'S MISSION IS TO SERVE PEOPLE OF NEVADA WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES, TO ENHANCE THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THEIR FAMILIES.

THE ADULT WORK-TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS TEACH INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES THE ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS THAT ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN ANY JOB OR COMMUNITY. OUR EMPLOYMENT RESOURCE CENTERS TEACH WORK SKILLS THROUGH VARIOUS PACKAGING AND ASSEMBLY TASKS. THE CULINARY PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING AND SKILLSETS THROUGH THE JDP PROGRAM AND KITCHEN CREATIONS. MEDIA MANAGEMENT EMPLOYS OVER 70 INDIVIDUALS IN PROVIDING DOCUMENT IMAGING AND DESTRUCTION SERVICES TO OUR CUSTOMERS. AS PART OF THEIR TRAINING, INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY THESE PROGRAM RECEIVE WAGES BASED ON THEIR PRODUCTIVITY. OUR JOB DISCOVERY PROGRAM IS A SCHOOL-TO-WORK TRANSITION PROGRAM THAT OFFERS STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE CAREERS AND RECEIVE WAGES BASED ON THEIR DUTIES. OUR FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM DEVELOPS SOCIAL INTERACTION AND PEER RELATIONSHIPS. ARTISTS ARE ABLE TO EARN COMMISSION BY SELLING THE ARTWORK THEY CREATE.

SERVICE CONTRACTS PROVIDE COMMUNITY-BASED EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES. OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE OPERATES A NUMBER OF "SMALL BUSINESSES" WHERE OVER 70% OF THE WORKERS ARE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. THEY CLEAN OVER 4.5MILLION SQUARE FEET OF GOVERNMENT AND COMMERCIAL OFFICE SPACE AND APPROXIMATELY 8 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF PARKING LOT SPACE. THEY SERVE OVER 234,000 MEALS EVERY YEAR TO THE AIRMEN AT NELLIS AFB. THEY OPERATE THE POSTAL SERVICE CENTER FOR NELLIS AFB AND HANDLE ALL SECURE AND NON-SECURE MAIL, WHICH AMOUNTS TO 218,000 PIECES PER YEAR. THE INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY THIS PROGRAM EARN AT OR ABOVE THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE AND ARE ELIGIBLE FOR HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS.

THE THRIFT STORE PROVIDES TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES IN RETAIL OPERATIONS AND RETAIL PROCESSING. THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SORTING, STOCKING, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CASHIERING DUTIES WITHIN THE RETAIL OPERATION.
