Urban Roots Garden Classrooms is mission driven to change the way kids eat and learn by growing healthy minds, bodies, and communities through garden-based education.
SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAMMING: Urban Roots uses gardening as a lens for teaching lessons that bolster academic achievement, increase healthy behaviors, inspire environmental consciousness, and cultivate a spirit for community service. During the Washoe County School District school year, Urban Roots provided Garden Classroom school-based programming to 3,426 children (78% from low-income schools), programs for 227 homeschool students, fieldtrips for 569 students to the Urban Teaching Farm, community workshops for 65 individuals, and professional development for 13 teachers.
