Organizations Filed Purposes: TO MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL SYSTEM, PRACTICE AND INSPIRE STEWARDSHIP, AND PRESERVE ACCESS TO THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THE LAKE TAHOE REGION.

TRAIL OPERATIONS PROGRAM: MAINTAINS AND ENHANCES THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL SYSTEM BY ORGANIZING AND TRAINING VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD, MAINTAIN, AND IMPROVE ITS 200 MILES OF TRAIL. IN 2018, THE TRTA LEVERAGED THE SUPPORT OF 330 VOLUNTEERS WHO CONTRIBUTED 12,0000 HOURS TO MAINTAIN EVERY MILE OF THE TRAIL SYSTEM. THE TRTA REMOVED 162 DOWNED TREES AND HOSTED 74 PUBLIC WORKDAYS AND THREE BACKCOUNTRY WORK CAMPS. 2018 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED BUILDING 1,000 FEET OF RETAINING WALL AT ECHO SUMMIT, FINISHING A REROUTE NEAR MARTIS PEAK, AND REBUILDING THE TAHOE CITY TRAILHEAD. HAZARD TREE MITIGATION AND THOROUGH TRAIL ASSESSMENTS WERE COMPLETED ON APPROXIMATELY 53 MILES OF TRAIL, THE SECOND YEAR OF A FOUR YEAR PROJECT THAT WILL ENCOMPASS THE ENTIRE TRAIL.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS: CREATES AND DISTRIBUTES INFORMATION ABOUT THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL TO ENSURE SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF THE TRAIL. THESE PROGRAMS ALSO PROMOTE EVENTS, PROJECTS, AND OPPORTUNITIES FACILITATED BY THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL ASSOCIATION. IN 2018, TRTA STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS REACHED MORE THAN 2,200 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH EVENTS SUCH AS TRAIL TALKS, EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS, COMMUNITY FESTIVALS, AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS. THE ASSOCIATION IMPROVED AND MAINTAINED ITS WEBSITE WHICH IS THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF WEB VISITORS ANNUALLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRTA MAINTAINED ACTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS AND EMAIL MARKETING CAMPAIGNS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO TRAIL USERS AND ANSWER QUESTIONS TO ENSURE SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL.

TRAIL USE PROGRAMS: INSPIRES ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND A DESIRE TO PROTECT THE UNIQUE NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN THROUGH GUIDED ON TRAIL PROGRAMMING. IN 2018, THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL ASSOCIATION FACILITATED OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO EXPERIENCE THE TRAIL INCLUDING NINE GUIDED MULTI-DAY BACKPACKING TRIPS FOR TEENS, TWO WILDERNESS FIRST AID COURSES, TWO AND A HALF 165-MILE THRU-HIKES, TWO ELEVEN-WEEK DAY HIKING PROGRAMS, THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL CHALLENGE PROGRAM, AND SKILLS COURSES SUCH AS INTRODUCTORY SNOW CAMPING AND BACKPACKING COURSES. 70 VOLUNTEERS GAVE OVER 5,000 HOURS TO FACILITATE PROGRAMS FOR 522 INDIVIDUALS WHO PARTICIPATED IN TRTA PROGRAMS, HIKES, EVENTS, TRAININGS, AND COURSES.
