HIWASSEE COLLEGE, FOUNDED IN 1849 AND ASSOCIATED WITH THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, IS A LIBERAL ARTS, RESIDENTIAL INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION, PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS IN AN ATMOSPHERE THAT PROMOTES INTELLECTUAL PURSUIT, SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND SOCIAL AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
INSTRUCTIONAL:A FOUR YEAR, UNITED METHODIST CHRISTIAN INSTITUTION, 170 YEARS OLD, LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGE OFFERING BACCALAUREATE AND ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS FOR AN AVERAGE ENROLLMENT OF 375 STUDENTS. SPRING 2019 WAS THE LAST ACADEMIC YEAR FOR THE COLLEGE BEFORE THE DECISION TO CLOSE DUE TO FINANCIALS REASONS WAS REACHED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMS INCLUDED EQUINE MANAGEMENT & TRAINING, EQUINE SCIENCE, INTERDISCIPLINARY LIBERAL ARTS (WITH VARIOUS CONCENTRATIONS) AND PASTORAL STUDIES. ASSOCIATE PROGRAMS INCLUDE DENTAL HYGIENE, FORESTRY TECHNOLOGY, AGRI-BUSINESS, CRIMINAL JUSTICE, ALLIED HEALTH, BUSINESS EDUCATION, LIBERAL ARTS, MUSIC, AND SCIENCE/MATH. THE COLLEGE HAS A FULL RANGE OF TRADITIONAL ATHLETIC TEAMS. IN ADDITION, CHAPEL IS HELD FOR ALL STUDENTS EACH WEDNESDAY. THE COLLEGE HAS A NEW PROGRAM FOR EQUINE THERAPY WHICH USES THE BARN AND STABLES AS THE TEACHING ARENA.GRANTS AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS:TWO FEDERALLY-FUNDED TRIO PROGRAMS, UPWARD BOUND AND TALENT SEARCH, WHICH SERVE OVER 700 JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN A MULTIPLE COUNTY AREA.STUDENT SERVICES:COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH VARIOUS STUDENT ACTIVITY PROGRAMS AND ATHLETICS. STUDENTS PAY ACTIVITY AND TECHNOLOGY FEES WHICH SUPPORT THE MANY ACTIVITIES PROVIDED THROUGH THE STUDENT DEVELOPMENT OFFICE AND THE TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS. FULL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED AS WELL AS INTRAMURALS, CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS, SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS AND CAMPUS ACTIVITIES WHICH PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS TO BE INVOLVED IN THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.STUDENT HOUSING AND FOOD SERVICES:COST ASSOCIATED WITH COLLEGE RESIDENCE HALLS AND FOOD SERVICES. THE COLLEGE OFFERS DOUBLE AND PRIVATE ROOMS TO STUDENTS. MEAL PLANS ARE PROVIDED FOR RESIDENTIAL AND COMMUTER STUDENTS. AFTER HOURS FOOD SERVICES ARE PROVIDED THROUGH THE CAMPUS SNACK BAR AND RESIDENCE HALL EVENTS.ACADEMIC SUPPORT - LIBRARY AND COMPUTER SYSTEM:A CENTRALLY LOCATED LIBRARY PROVIDES ACCESS TO BOTH ON CAMPUS AND MULTIPLE ELECTRONIC DATABASES FOR USE BY STUDENTS; FOUR COMPUTER LABS PROVIDE ACCESS TO STUDENTS; CAMPUS-WIDE ACCESS TO LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS.
