PROMOTING MANAGEMENT OF OPIOID THERAPIES BY COLLABORATION AND SHARING OF INFORMATION AMONG HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND COMMUNITIES.
COACH TN HAS INCREASED ACCESS TO EDUCATION ABOUT OPIOID PRESCRIBING GUIDELINES AMONG HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN TENNESSEE THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH STATE AGENCIES, HEALTH PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, CLINICAL HEALTH EDUCATORS AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS. SINCE APRIL 2019, 3,298 HEALTH PROFESSIONALS HAVE RECEIVED 1,297 CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS AT NO COST, FOR COMPLETION OF COURSEWORK VIA A MOBILE APPLICATION DELIVERING INFORMATION ABOUT APPROPRIATE USE OF PRESCRIPTION OPIOID MEDICATIONS. ADDITIONALLY, COACH TN HAS PROVIDED TRAINING TO 20 HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, INCLUDING PHARMACISTS, PHYSICIANS AND HEALTH EDUCATORS, TO SERVE AS ACADEMIC DETAILERS WHO HAVE MET ONE-ON-ONE WITH CLINICIANS IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES, HOLDING OVER 80 VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON SESSIONS TO DATE TO SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT OPIOID PRESCRIBING GUIDELINES, STATE REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS, DATA TRENDS AND ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES TO REDUCE THE MORPHINE MILLIGRAM EQUIVALENTS (MMES) PRESCRIBED TO PATIENTS FOR ACUTE AND CHRONIC PAIN. COACH TN HAS DEVELOPED PLANS FOR A PILOT PROJECT TO IMPROVE MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC PAIN THROUGH A TEAM-BASED APPROACH, SUPPORTED BY A VALUE-BASED PAYMENT MODEL TO IMPROVE PATIENT SAFETY, FUNCTION AND PAIN RELIEF. IN 2021, COACH TN WILL INCORPORATE STRATEGIES TO INCREASE ALIGNMENT OF STRATEGIC PLANS AND RESOURCES AMONG PARTNERS, ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR PATIENTS AND FAMILIES, INCREASE THE NUMBER OF TRAINED ACADEMIC DETAILERS IN HIGHLY-IMPACTED COMMUNITIES, AND CO-PRESCRIBING OF NALOXONE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF FATAL OVERDOSES. THESE INITIATIVES ARE SUPPORTED WITH FUNDING FROM THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (CDC) AND THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE DONORS, AND IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS.
