TO POSITIVELY INFLUENCE AND DEVELOP THE LIVES OF BOYS BY PROVIDING A MUSIC PROGRAM OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY WHICH INCLUDES EDUCATION, APPRECIATION, AND PERFORMANCE.
MUSIC EDUCATION - THE CHOIR'S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM PREPARES ITS CHORISTERS FOR LIFELONG PARTICIPATION IN MUSIC MAKING AND THE CHORAL ARTS. IN ADDITION TO INSTRUCTION DURING WEEKLY REHEARSALS, STUDENTS UTILIZE THE CHOIR'S COMPUTER MUSIC THEORY LAB AND CUSTOM TAILORED MUSICIANSHIP CURRICULUM TO LEARN BOTH BASIC BUILDING BLOCKS AND ADVANCED MUSICAL CONCEPTS. AS PART OF ITS EDUCATIONAL AIMS, THE CHOIR HOSTS IN SERVICE CLINICS FOR LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHERS AND SERVES AS A TRAINING GROUND FOR COLLEGIATE INTERNS IN BOTH MUSIC EDUCATION AND NON PROFIT MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS. THE CHOIR ALSO REGULARLY PRESENTS WORKSHOPS AND CLINICS FOR UNIVERSITY MUSIC METHODS COURSES, CHORAL MUSIC AND MUSIC EDUCATION CONFERENCE, AND CHURCH MUSIC TRAINING EVENTS.
MUSIC IN PANDEMIC - IN THE SPRING OF 2020, THE CHOIR HAD TO TRANSITION TO VIRTUAL LEARNING AND "SOCIAL DISTANSING." MEMBERS OF THE CHOIR WERE JOINED ON ZOOM BY 12 DIFFERENT COMPOSERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR "COMPOSER CHATS." CHORISTERS HAD THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT WITH COMPOSERS OF THE MUSIC THEY WERE PREPARING, AND ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PIECES AND THE COMPOSITION PROCESS. CHORISTERS WERE ALSO JOINED BY FACULTY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, CHATTANOOGA'S MUSIC THERAPY PROGRAM. IN JULY, THE CHOIR MODIFIED ITS TYPICAL SUMMER CAMP TO PROVIDE A "SUMMER MUSIC EXPERIENCE," WHICH FOLLOWED COVID GUIDELINES. TECHNIQUES FOR LEARNING MUSIC FOCUSED ON LEARNING MUSIC AUROLLY, KINISTHETICALLY, AND VISUALLY WITH LIMITED SINGING. THE WEEK PROVIDED PARTICIPANTS WITH A WAY TO LEARN, GROW, AND CONNECT IN A SAFE MANNER.
PERFORMANCE - IN SEPTEMBER, THE CHOIR PRESENTED A CONCERT FOR INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY INCLUDING TWO SONGS BY CHATTANOOGA COMPOSER ETHAN MCGRATH. IN OCTOBER, THE CHOIR HOSTED THE ANNUAL "ONLY MEN ALOUD" MEN'S CHORUS DAY FESTIVAL WITH OVER 100 8-12TH GRADERS PARTICIPATING ALONG WITH THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY MEN'S CHORUS AND CLINICIAN DR. WILLIAM POWELL, DIRECTOR OF CHORAL ACTIVITIES AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY. IN DECEMBER, THE CHOIR PRESENTED THE 57TH ANNUAL SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE FOR OVER 3000 SCHOOL CHILDREN FOLLOWED BY TWO PUBLIC PERFORMANCES IN THE HISTORIC TIVOLI THEATRE. IN THE SPRING, THE CHOIR COLLABORATED WITH THE CHORAL SOCIETY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SONG FOR THE 27TH ANNUAL SIMMONS-O'NEAL MEMORIAL CONCERT AND PERFORMED A JOINT CONCERT WITH THE MIAMI (OHIO) UNIVERSITY MEN'S CHOIR.
