WE COMPASSIONATELY CARE FOR PEOPLE BY ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY TO DRIVE PHILANTHROPIC AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT.
THE FUNDING RECEIVED BY THE FOUNDATION WAS UTILIZED IN A VARIETY OF WAYS TO SUPPORT THE MISSION OF ERLANGER AND THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUNDING RECEIVED IN THE FORM OF PLEDGE PAYMENTS FROM THE BELIEVE CAMPAIGN CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION FOR THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AT ERLANGER KENNEDY OUTPATIENT CENTER. THIS UNIQUE, KID-FRIENDLY FACILITY PROVIDES CARE FOR MORE THAN 70,000 PATIENT VISITS A YEAR. IN ADDITION TO THE FACILITY, SEVERAL PLEDGES AND PAYMENTS WERE RECEIVED FOR THE PEDIATRIC MRI AND PROCEDURE CENTER TO BE HOUSED IN THE KENNEDY OUTPATIENT CENTER. THIS CENTER WILL PROVIDE THE REGION'S ONLY DEDICATED PEDIATRIC MRI. CONSTRUCTION IS SCHEDULED TO START WITHIN THE 2020-2021 TIMEFRAME.IN ADDITION TO THESE UNIQUE FACILITY EXPENSES FOR CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, SEVERAL ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS WERE IMPACTED BY THE GENEROSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE ERLANGER ORTHOPAEDIC SERVICE LINE WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE IMAGING EQUIPMENT TO ENHANCE ITS ABILITY TO PROVIDE THE BEST CARE POSSIBLE IN OUR AREA. OTHER FUNDS WERE UTILIZED FOR SUPPORT OF THE NEUROSCIENCE INSTITUTE'S ALS CLINIC BY SUPPORTING THE PROVISION OF A NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST DEDICATED TO CARING FOR THESE PATIENTS. THE PASTORAL CARE PROGRAM FOR ERLANGER ALSO RECEIVED GREAT BENEFITS FROM FUNDS DONATED TO SUPPORT THEIR CRITICAL SUPPORT SERVICES. FUNDING FROM THE ALPER ENDOWMENT WAS AGAIN UTILIZED FOR THE ANNUAL ALPER AWARD, HOSTED EVERY YEAR TO HONOR SOMEONE WITH THE ALPER HUMANITARIAN AWARD AND ALLOWING FOR AN OUTSIDE SPECIALIST TO PROVIDE AN EDUCATIONAL TALK. GRANT FUNDING RECEIVED SPECIFICALLY SUPPORTED THE CHILDREN'S HEALTHY EATING AND ACTIVE LIFESTYLE CLINIC. THESE FUNDS SUPPORTED STAFFING NEEDS, PROGRAMMATIC MATERIAL NEEDS AND SOME EXTERNAL PARTNERSHIPS SUCH AS WALKING TRACKS AT LOCAL SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN OUR COMMUNITY EXTENSION OF THIS PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM AND ITS COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS SIGNIFICANTLY ASSIST OUR PATIENTS WITH WEIGHT ISSUES WHILE HELPING THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES MAKE POSITIVE CHOICES REGARDING NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. IT IS TRULY A UNIQUE PROGRAM DEALING WITH ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES FACING PEDIATRIC PATIENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. LIKE OTHER HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS, ERLANGER FACED SEVERAL UNIQUE CHALLENGES THIS PAST YEAR DUE TO THE IMPACT OF COVID-19. IN RESPONSE, THE FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO RECEIVE AND IMMEDIATELY UTILIZE FUNDING FOR NEEDS RELATED TO THE IMPACT OF COVID-19, SUCH AS PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND A VARIETY OF OTHER EXPENSES INCURRED DURING THIS TIME. ADDITIONALLY, DUE TO FACING FURLOUGHS AND OTHER STAFFING CHALLENGES IN RELATION TO COVID-19 ISSUES, THE FOUNDATION RAISED AND IMMEDIATELY UTILIZED FUNDS FOR THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND. OUTSIDE OF COVID-RELATED COSTS, THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND WAS ALSO UTILIZED IN RESPONSE TO SEVERAL EMPLOYEES BEING NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY A TORNADO IN OUR REGION. THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND TRULY EXEMPLIFIES THE DEEP BELIEF OF CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER THAT EXISTS THROUGHOUT OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. OTHER WAYS WE UTILIZED DONATED FUNDS INCLUDED PURCHASING MONITORS FOR THE PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT, PROVIDING CAR SEATS FOR NEW PARENTS WHO REQUIRED THEM, SUPPORT FOR SPECIALIZED "KANGAROO" CHAIRS IN THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT, AND THE PROVISION OF ARTWORK TO ENHANCE SEVERAL AREAS OF OUR HEALTH SYSTEM. PHILANTHROPIC INVESTMENTS CONTINUE TO MAKE A GROWING IMPACT IN OUR EFFORTS TO COMPASSIONATELY CARE FOR PEOPLE BY PROVIDING THE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS TO ENHANCE OUR CLINICAL ENVIRONMENTS AND CAPABILITIES.
