Organizations Filed Purposes: The St. Alexius Outreach Ministries (SAOM) mission is to 'alleviate isolation and loneliness through friendship and supportive services' in vulnerable older adults. They are a presence-based Catholic ministry, sustained by committed and caring staff, volunteers and Alexian Brothers.

To alleviate isolation and loneliness and improve the health and well- being by providing friendship and supportive services to people in the communities we are called to serve.

St. Alexus Outreach Ministries, Inc. (SAOM) first program, Hospitality at Home (HaH), provides friendship and supportive services to assist in the alleviation of isolation and loneliness in the lives of vulnerable older adults within the greater Chattanooga, Tennessee area. Referrals for support are received from partnering agencies, such as TN Adult Protective Services, home health and home care agencies, physicians, and other service providers. In 2019, volunteers and Alexian Brothers solely gave 1805 hours of support primarily through home visits and reassurance phone calls. Volunteers served an average of 50 hours throughout the year, which represents over 600 hours committed to nurturing relationships with participants through calls and visits. Staff provided direct supportive services, some of which included assistance in securing and transporting to medical appointments, securing nutritional foods, medications, providing foster home placement for pets, and referrals to other supportive agencies; staff have also reconnected several participants with their faith communities. There are no fees for service.

The SAOM Shopping Shuttle (SS) program provides curb-to-curb, round trip transportation in a 15 passenger van with a lift to disabled and older adults who reside in nine subsidized housing complexes within the city of Chattanooga, TN. The SS program promotes healthy, nutritional food consumption while concurrently providing opportunities for greater socialization. The areas of service are geographically identified by the USDA as food deserts, lacking adequate grocery stores, markets, and healthy food providers within a 1-mile radius from place of residence. The driver aides the riders with loading and unloading their groceries. In 2019, the SAOM Shopping Shuttle transported 2,936 passengers. There are no fees for service, donations are accepted.
