Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN OUR REGION BY DRIVING SOCIAL CHANGE, PROVIDING OPPORTUNITY AND PROMOTING ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY THROUGH EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY, EMPOWERED PHILANTHROPY, COLLECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS, AND STRATEGIC GRANTMAKING.
GRANT MAKING: THE NIGHTINGALE NETWORK OF THE WOMEN'S FUND OF GREATER CHATTANOOGA AWARDED $12,750 TO FAMILY PROMISE OF GREATER CHATTANOOGA IN SUPPORT OF THEIR PROGRAM, "HOUSING HOMELESS MOTHERS." FAMILY PROMISE'S MISSION IS TO HELP FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN ACHIEVE AND SUSTAIN INDEPENDENCE THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS. ONE OF THE LARGEST POPULATIONS THAT FAMILY PROMISE SERVES IS HOMELESS SINGLE MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN - TOTALING 42% OF THEIR CLIENTS OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS.THE GRANT FUNDING WILL BE USED TO TRANSITION TEN FAMILIES, MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN, INTO PERMANENT HOUSING. FOR MANY HOMELESS FAMILIES, THE UPFRONT FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THE TRANSITION TO PERMANENT HOUSING ARE INSURMOUNTABLE. WITH THIS GRANT-FUNDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AS WELL AS CASE MANAGEMENT, LIFE SKILLS CLASSES, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, FAMILY PROMISE WILL PROVIDE THE TRAUMA-INFORMED HOLISTIC CARE AND SUPPORT TO THESE WOMEN FOR SUCCESSFUL TRANSITIONS TO PERMANENT HOUSING.TWO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ALSO RECEIVED GRANTS OF $2,500 EACH.
COLLABORATION: CONTINUED TO WORK WITH PARTNERS ACROSS THE STATE TO ELIMINATE THE BARRIERS TO WOMEN AND GIRLS. PARTNERS INCLUDE THE CHATTANOOGA MAYOR'S COUNCIL FOR WOMEN, PARTNERSHIP FOR FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND ADULTS, HEALTHY AND FREE TENNESSEE, A BETTER BALANCE, AND AWAKE TENNESSEE. CONTINUED THE WORK OF THE TENNESSEE WOMEN'S FUND ALLIANCE, MEETING QUARTERLY AND BEGINNING TO PLAN OUR NEXT CAMPAIGN.
ADVOCACY: UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR ADVOCACY SPECIALIST, OUR ADVOCACY COMMITTEE RESEARCHED ISSUES, FOLLOWED PROPOSED LEGISLATION IN THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, CREATED LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY LIST, ISSUED CALLS TO ACTION ON BILLS AS APPROPRIATE, AND ATTENDED AND CO-SPONSORED WOMEN'S DAY ON THE HILL. CONTINUED OUR CAMPAIGN TO TAKE TENNESSEE FROM 49 TO 1, FOCUSING OUR WORK AROUND THE 7 AREAS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE STATUS OF WOMEN REPORT PRODUCED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN'S POLICY RESEARCH, WHICH RANKED TENNESSEE AS 49TH IN THE STATUS OF WOMEN.
