THE GRAY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT (GVFD) WAS FORMED IN 1972 TO PROVIDE FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES TO 1,222 CITIZENS AND 570 HOMES OF GRAY, TENNESSEE AS WELL AS THE SURROUNDING AREAS OF APPROXIMATELY 15,000 CITIZENS AND 5,000 HOMES IN GVFD DESIGNATED FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE TERRITORY. OTHER LOCAL COMMUNITIES ALSO DEPEND UPON THE GVFD FOR AID AND ASSISTANCE WHEN SITUATIONS ARISE. IN ADDITION, THE GVFD SECURES AND MAINTAINS THEIR APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT AND PROVIDES PERSONNEL TRAINING. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO REDUCE DAMAGE ASSOCIATED WITH FIRES IN A LARGE PORTION OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE.
