HOLSTON UNITED METHODIST HOME FOR CHILDREN PROVIDES HOPE AND HEALING FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE BY SHARING THE LOVE OF JESUS WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES STRUGGLING WITH LIFE'S CHALLENGES.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS FOR NEEDY/NEGLECTED/ABUSED CHILDREN:HOLSTON HOME OPERATES THREE GROUP CARE PROGRAMS AND AN INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE SERVICES TO BOTH MALE AND FEMALE YOUTH AND ARE A PART OF THE AGENCY'S CONTINUUM OF CARE. KEY COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDE: ADOPTION SERVICES, DAY TREATMENT SERVICES AT OUR ON-CAMPUS SCHOOL, INTENSIVE IN HOME SERVICES, CHRISTIAN LIFE ACTIVITIES, INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, FAMILY COUNSELING, ALCOHOL AND DRUG EDUCATION, ADVENTURE BASED COUNSELING, ADAPTIVE LIVING AND INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING. EACH YOUTH HAS A CHILD AND FAMILY SPECIALIST THAT PROVIDES BOTH INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING SERVICES. WHILE THE YOUTH IS PLACED IN THE AGENCY'S GROUP CARE PROGRAM, THE CHILD AND FAMILY SPECIALIST PROVIDES COUNSELING SERVICES IN THE FAMILY'S HOME. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE THE YOUTH RETURN TO HIS/HER FAMILY OR A FOSTER HOME AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. EACH FACILITY HAS DIRECT CARE STAFF THAT PROVIDE THE CARE AND SUPERVISION OF THE YOUTH. ADDITIONAL STAFF INCLUDE: PROGRAM DIRECTORS, PROGRAM SUPERVISORS, HOUSE SUPERVISORS, SHIFT SUPERVISORS, ADVENTURE BASED COUNSELORS, A DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN LIFE, MEDICAL COORDINATORS, AND A PART TIME NURSE.

FOSTER CARE PROGRAMS FOR NEEDY/NEGLECTED/ABUSED CHILDREN:HOLSTON UNITED METHODIST HOME FOR CHILDREN'S FOSTER CARE PROGRAM LOCATES, TRAINS AND PROVIDES FOSTER PARENTS FOR CHILDREN WHO NEED A HOME DUE TO EXPERIENCING TRAUMA. FOSTER FAMILIES COME FROM ALL TYPES OF BACKGROUNDS AND HAVE MANY DIFFERENT LIFE EXPERIENCES. THEY ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE A HOME WHERE CHILDREN HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING. FOSTER FAMILIES UNDERGO EXTENSIVE TRAINING, BACKGROUND CHECKS AND HOME STUDY PROCESS BEFORE CHILDREN ARE PLACED IN THEIR HOME. FOSTER PARENTS PARTICIPATE IN ON-GOING MONTHLY TRAINING. ONCE THEY RECEIVE A CHILD INTO THEIR HOME, THEY ARE PROVIDED AROUND THE CLOCK SUPPORT BY A CHILD AND FAMILY SPECIALIST AND A TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS. AROUND THE CLOCK ON-CALL SUPPORT IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR EMERGENCIES. FOSTER PARENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH RESPITE CARE, WHICH ALLOWS FAMILIES TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THE DEMANDS OF BEING A FOSTER PARENT. WATCHING THE CHILDREN IN THEIR HOME GROW, LEARN AND MAKE PROGRESS IS REWARDING FOR OUR FOSTER PARENTS. FOSTER PARENTS DO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST TO APPROPRIATELY PROVIDE AND CARE FOR EACH CHILD.

EARLY LEARNING/CHILD CARE PROGRAMS:IN 1985, HOLSTON HOME BEGAN LOOKING BEYOND ITS CAMPUS TO HELP COMMUNITIES CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. WE WERE PARTICULARLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE NEED FOR QUALITY, AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE FOR CHILDREN OF WORKING PARENTS -- ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN FROM LOW INCOME AND SINGLE-PARENT FAMILIES. THESE EARLY CHILDHOOD MINISTRIES BEGAN AS THE CHILDREN'S CENTER IN GREENEVILLE AND HAVE NOW EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE SMALL MIRACLES CENTER. OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD MINISTRIES NOW SERVE MORE THAN 120 INFANT TO PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN EACH WORKDAY. OUR PRE-K CLASSROOMS ARE STAFFED BY CERTIFIED BACHELOR-LEVEL TEACHERS WHILE ALL OTHER LEAD TEACHERS HOLD A MINIMUM OF A CHILD DEVELOPMENT ACCREDITATION (CDA) CERTIFICATION AND ARE LED BY AN EXPERIENCED EARLY-CHILDHOOD DIRECTOR. THE DAILY PROGRAM IS BUILT UPON AN ESTABLISHED CURRICULUM. EACH OF OUR CENTERS HAS BEEN AWARDED A THREE-STAR RATING (THE TOP RATING) ON THE TENNESSEE QUALITY-RATING SYSTEM. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST WITH COSTS SO THAT PARENTS WILL NOT HAVE TO GIVE UP QUALITY CHILDCARE IN ORDER TO WORK OR TO GO TO SCHOOL.
