FRIENDS OF INDIAN LAKE PENINSULA IS DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION, PROTECTION, AND STEWARDSHIP OF GREEN SPACE FOR ITS USE AS PASSIVE PARKS IN THE CITY OF HENDERSONVILLE, TN. IT WORKS TO PROTECT THE NATURAL AND HISTORICAL INTEGRITY OF THE AREA BY SUPPORTING PUBLIC ACCESS, MAINTAINING AND ENHANCING ITS FEATURES AND EXPANDIONG ITS LEGACY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE FIRST GOAL OF OUR MISSION, WHICH IS TO BUY HALF OF THE 73 ACRES AND CONVINCE THE CITY TO PURCHASE THE OTHER HALF FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PASSIVE PARK. THE PURPOSE OF OUR ORGANIZATION AT THIS POINT IS TO PROVIDE FUNDING THROUGH GRANTS AND DONATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LAND THAT WILL ALLOW THE COMMUNITY TO SAFELY ACCESS ALL 73 ACRES TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG AND OLD.
2018 - PURCHASED 38 ACRES OF UNDEVELOPED LAND FOR CONSERVATION. ENCOURAGED CITY OF HENDERSONVILLE TO PURCHASE THE ADJACENT 34 ACRES OF FARMLAND TO PRESERVE LAND FOR CONSERVATION. CITY PURCHASED THIS LAND. CONDUCTED ABOUT 25 TOURS OF GROUPS OF ABOUT 24 PEOPLE EACH TOUR FOR TOTAL OF 600 COMMUNITY RESIDENTS ON NOVEMBER 17, 2018: "HAYRIDES & HIKING THE HILL" EVENT WITH APPROXIMATELY 29 VOLUNTEERS WHICH INCLUDED 4 FROM CITY AND FIRE DEPARTMENT. CONDUCTED VARIOUS OTHER TOURS WITH TN WILDLIFE RESOURCE AUTHORITY, TENNESSEE PARKS & GREENWAYS FOUBDATION, VARIOUS NEWSPAPER AND TV REPORTS - APPROXIMATELY 30 PEOPLE FROM MARCH 2018 - DECEMBER 2018. CONDUCTED CLEAN UP DAY ON OUR PROPERTY ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2018 WITH APPROXIMATELY 25 VOLUNTEERS MADE UP OF OUR COMMUNITY RESIDENTS AND BOARD MEMBERS. 700 COMMUNITY MEMBERS RESPONDED TO COMMUNITY SURVEY REGARDING PASSIVE PARK FOR COMMUNITY ACCESS AND FUTURE CONSERVATION OF SPACE FOR WILDLIFE AND FIORA. 2019- 2019- "HAYRIDES AND HIKING THE HILL," HENDERSONVILLE, TN COMMUNITY WIDE EVENT WAS HOSTED ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 16, 2019. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL FALL DAY WITH CLOSE TO 600 FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS PARTICIPATING IN GUIDED TWO MILE ROUND TRIP HIKES UP AND DOWN THE "HILL." OUR GUESTS ENJOYED VISITING WITH EVERYONE AS WELL AS TAKING HAYRIDES AROUND THE FARM PROPERTY, DINING AT PICNIC TABLES FROM FOOD PURCHASED FROM FOOD TRUCKS. OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDED FACE PAINTING AND PLANTING PERENNIAL FLOWER SEEDS ON THE FARM PROPERTY." OUR VOLUNTEERS THAT DAY CONSISTED OF APPROXIMATELY 63 MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND ADULT VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON. 2020 - OUR ONLY COMMUNITY EVENT WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2020 - " HIKING THE HILL" WITH APPROXIMATELY 500+ FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS ALONG WITH FOLKS FROM DAVIDSON COUNTY ATTENDED THIS EVENT. THE WEATHER AGAIN THIS YEAR WAS A BEAUTIFUL FALL DAY IN WHICH WE HELD A SCAVENGER HUNT ON THE "HILL" FOR THE YOUTH . THE CHILDREN WERE TASKED TO FIND CERTAIN TYPES OF LEAVES & NUTS ALONG THE WAY. THEY IDENTIFIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT BIRDS SEEN ALONG THE TRAIL ON THE HILL. THE CHILDREN ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PAINT ROCKS THAT WERE PURCHASED AT A NEARBY GARDEN CENTER. WE HAD THREE "FOOD TRUCKS" ON HAND FOR OUR GUESTS TO ENJOY AS WELL. A FOUR PIECE LOCAL BAND, "DOUBLE TAKE," DONATED THEIR TIME BY PLAYING AT OUR 3 HOUR EVENT AS WELL . EVERYONE HAD A GOOD TIME
