Organizations Filed Purposes:
Conserving and recovering native fish populations
In 2019-2020 CFI continued to propagate, stock and monitor Smoky and Yellowfin Madtoms, Citico Darters, and Spotfin Chubs for restoring into Tellico River and other sites within the Little Tennessee River system. We also monitor source populations in Citico Creek and the Little Tennessee River. We continue to propagate, stock and monitor Boulder Darters from the source in the Elk River in Tennessee Shoal Creek. Yellowfin Madtoms are also propagated for restoration into historic localities within the North Fork of the Holston River in Virginia. Barrens Topminnows and Spring Pygmy Sunfish are propagated for future restoration work as well as maintaining ARK populations in the CFI hatchery. We have been developing propagation techniques for the Pygmy Sculpin and maintaining an ARK of the Endangered species. Marbled Darters, Blotchside Logperch, Sickle Darters and Ashy Darters are propagated for restoration into the Little River in Tennessee and Tellico River and Citico Creek respectively. We are propagating Yellowcheek Darters for the state of Arkansas. Propagation techniques are being developed for the Carolina Madtoms from the Neuse River watershed in NC. Buck Darters are under propagation for restoration into historic sites in KY. Propagation techniques are being developed to produce Okaloosa Darters for restoration into streams within Eglin Airforce Base proper in the Panhandle of FL. Monitoring populations of Madtoms and Spotfin Chubs in TN and VA continues. Conservation Fisheries also participates in several "Kids in the Creek" outings where we help lead aquatic excursions into our local streams and rivers. CFI also continues to present programs for local schools and organizations on the importance of our local aquatic fauna and the need to protect our rivers and streams. Personnel from CFI have given virtual presentations during this fiscal year to professional organizations. In addition, we have virtually attended numerous showings of a new film, Hidden Rivers in which CFI was prominently featured. We participated in question and answer sessions following the showing of the film.
