ALTHOUGH REIMBURSEMENT FOR SERVICES RENDERED IS CRITICAL TO THE OPERATION AND STABILITY OF BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC., IT IS RECOGNIZED THAT NOT ALL INDIVIDUALS POSSESS THE ABILITY TO PURCHASE ESSENTIAL MEDICAL SERVICES, AND FURTHER, THAT THE MISSION OF BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. IS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY WITH RESPECT TO PROVIDING HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND HEALTH CARE EDUCATION. THEREFORE, IN KEEPING WITH ITS COMMITMENT TO SERVE ALL MEMBERS OF ITS COMMUNITY, BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING:- FREE CARE AND/OR SUBSIDIZED CARE WHERE THE NEED AND/OR AN INDIVIDUAL'S INABILITY TO PAY COEXIST,- CARE PROVIDED TO PERSONS COVERED BY GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS AT BELOW COST, AND- HEALTH ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY.THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE WELLNESS PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS, SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR THE ELDERLY, HANDICAPPED, MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED, AND A VARIETY OF BROAD COMMUNITY SUPPORT ACTIVITIES.BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC.'S PROGRAM SERVICES AS OF SEPTEMBER 30, 2019 INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING:- THE SKILLED NURSING DEPARTMENT PROVIDED 7,511 PATIENT SERVICE DAYS AT A COST OF $11,848,188.- THE RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT PERFORMED 79,880 PROCEDURES AT A COST OF $4,419,443.- THE LAB DEPARTMENT PERFORMED 194,661 PROCEDURES AT A COST OF $2,204,735.- THE PHARMACY DEPARTMENT PROVIDED 14,649 PHARMACY ADJUSTED PATIENT DAYS AND DISPENSED MEDICATION AT COST OF $2,123,612.BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. SERVICED 2,347 INPATIENTS AND PROVIDED 66,191 OUTPATIENT VISITS DURING FISCAL YEAR 2019. BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. PROVIDES CARE TO PERSONS COVERED BY GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS FROM WHICH THE HOSPITAL RECEIVES PAYMENT AT LESS THAN MARKET VALUE REIMBURSEMENT. RECOGNIZING ITS MISSION TO THE COMMUNITY, SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO MEDICARE, MEDICAID AND UNINSURED PATIENTS. TO THE EXTENT REIMBURSEMENT IS BELOW COST, BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. RECOGNIZES THESE AMOUNTS AS CHARITY CARE IN MEETING ITS MISSION TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. DURING THE YEAR ENDED SEPTEMBER 30, 2019, THE UNREIMBURSED VALUE OF PROVIDING CARE TO THESE PATIENTS WAS $183,066,218.CHARITY CARE IS ALSO PROVIDED THROUGH MANY REDUCED PRICE SERVICES AND FREE PROGRAMS OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR BASED UPON ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES WHICH BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. BELIEVES WILL SERVE A BONA FIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH NEED.IN ADDITION, BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. HAS A REHABILITATION FACILITY WITH "STATE-OF-THE-ART" EQUIPMENT AND A PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED STAFF. AN EXAMPLE OF THE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO THE PATIENTS IS THE BALANCE MASTER SYSTEM, WHICH IS USED TO RETRAIN BALANCE. IN ADDITION, BAPTIST REHABILITATION OFFERS SPEECH THERAPY. BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. HAS PROVIDED PHYSICAL THERAPY AND REHABILITATION FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. THE STAFF AT BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. HAS PARTNERED WITH AREA NURSING HOMES TO ENHANCE TREATMENT PLANS IN REGARDS TO PALLIATIVE CARE INITIATIVES. THE HOSPITAL HAS OPENED INPATIENT HOSPICE BEDS AND WORKED WITH AREA NURSING HOMES TO ESTABLISH HOSPICE CARE IN THEIR FACILITIES.BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. HAS PROVIDED A NUMBER OF SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY, SOME OF WHICH INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:- HOSPITAL TOURS FOR VARIOUS GROUPS- REPRESENTATIVES WHO SPOKE FREE OF CHARGE TO VARIOUS COMMUNITY GROUPS- BREASTFEEDING CLASSES- CHILDBIRTH CLASSES- LAMAZE CLASSES- OBION COUNTY LEADERSHIP- OBION COUNTY YOUTH LEADERSHIP- TEDDY BEAR CLINIC- TOY DRIVE FOR HEAD STARTBAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. ALSO PROVIDED SEVERAL COUNSELING SESSIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WHICH INCLUDED:- FREE BLOOD PRESSURE ASSESSMENTS- DIETARY CONSULTATIONS FOR DISCHARGED PATIENTSBAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC. ALSO PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY:- PRESENTATION OF SEVERAL HEALTH FAIRS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THE COMMUNITY- MEETING ROOMS AT NO-CHARGE FOR VARIOUS COMMUNITY GROUPS- HEALTH SCREENINGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THE COMMUNITY AT NO-CHARGE OR REDUCED PRICES - VARIOUS CAREER SEMINARS/MEETINGS FOR THE COMMUNITY- FAMILY SERVICES - FREE OR REDUCED PRICE FLU VACCINESBAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL-UNION CITY, INC.
