THE ANTIQUES & GARDEN SHOW OF NASHVILLE IS AN ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHEEKWOOD BOTANICAL GARDEN & MUSEUM OF ART AND THE ECONOMIC CLUB OF NASHVILLE (ECON) CHARITIES, INC., BY EXHIBITING THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF ANTIQUES, LANDSCAPED GARDENS AND HORTICULTURAL ITEMS AND BY OFFERING A RELATED EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM.
IN 2020 THE ANTIQUES AND GARDEN SHOW OF NASHVILLE CELEBRATED ITS 30TH YEAR. IT WAS THE 7TH TIME THE SHOW WAS HELD AT THE MUSIC CITY CENTER AND IT PROVED TO BE ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR. MANY PREVIOUS DEALERS RETURNED ALONG WITH NEW ONES TO BRING A FRESH PERSPECTIVE TO THE AUDIENCE. THE SHOW OPENED ON THURSDAY EVENING WITH THE TRADITIONAL BENEFACTOR'S RECEPTION FROM 5:30 TO 9:30 WHERE 200+ GOLDEN BENEFACTORS, BENEFACTORS AND VIP GUESTS CELEBRATED THE KICKOFF OF THE SHOW. THE PREVIEW PARTY FOLLOWED FROM 6:30 TO 9:30PM WHERE OVER 1800 GUESTS ENJOYED HEAVY HORS D'OEUVRES AND A GREAT PREVIEW OF ALL THE VENDOR BOOTHS AND SPECTACULAR GARDENS. THE SHOW OPENED ON FRIDAY MORNING AND CONTINUED THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. ATTENDANCE WAS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY 12,895 WHICH WAS CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL. TICKETS WERE PURCHASED FROM 45 VARIOUS STATES WITH THE MAJORITY BEING IN THE SOUTHEAST REGION. WE CONTINUED TO STREAMLINE EXPENSES WHEREVER POSSIBLE UTILIZING VOLUNTEERS, SECURING IN-KIND DONATIONS AND TARGETING MARKETING THROUGH INCREASED SOCIAL MEDIA EXPOSURE. WE KICKED OFF THE SHOW IN MID-SEPTEMBER WITH AN EVENING COCKTAIL PARTY ATTENDED BY 200+ COMMITTEE MEMBERS, GARDENERS, AND LOCAL MEDIA. DURING THIS EVENT, THE THEME OF THE SHOW "LEGACY" WAS UNVEILED. IN ADDITION, THE SHOW SCHEDULE AND VIP GUEST LINEUP WERE ANNOUNCED, AND THE NEW WEBSITE AND TICKETING SALES WERE LAUNCHED.
THE ANTIQUES AND GARDEN SHOW WAS HONORED TO PRESENT A STELLAR LINEUP OF LECTURE GUESTS ONCE AGAIN FOR THE 2020 SHOW. CELEBRATING THE 30TH YEAR, THE GENERAL CHAIRMAN INVITED INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN INTERIOR DESIGNER, AND NATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER, BUNNY WILLIAMS, TO SERVE AS HONORARY CHAIRMAN. FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS OF OUR 2019 SHOW, THE GENERAL CHAIRMEN WERE DELIGHTED TO INVITE BUSINESSMAN FRED KREHBIEL, ALONGSIDE MASTER GARDENER JIM REYNOLDS AND ENGLISH INTERIOR DESIGNER COLIN ORCHARD TO APPEAR TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER TO SHARE THE RESTORATION ODYSSEY OF IRELAND'S BALLYFIN, AN 1820'S REGENCY MANOR HOUSE SITUATED ON 614 ACRES IN THE IRISH MIDLANDS. MODERATOR NINA CAMPBELL, WORLD-RENOWNED INTERIOR DESIGNER, GUIDED THE CONVERSATION OF THE THREE VISIONARIES WHO DEDICATED A DECADE TO THE RENOVATION OF BALLYFIN. THE KEYNOTE EVENT WAS SPONSORED BY MILIEU MAGAZINE. THE SCOUT GUIDE ALSO SERVED AS A SUPPORTING SPONSOR FOR THE EVENT THAT ENTERTAINED AN AUDIENCE OF 1102 EXCITED GUESTS. IN ADDITION, FRIDAY AFTERNOON, 787 SHOW ATTENDEES WERE ENTERTAINED BY SECOND GENERATION LANDSCAPE DESIGNER MARTIN WIRTZ WHO SHARED HIS FAMILY HISTORY AND FIRM PHILOSOPHY IN EXPLORING THE INSPIRATION FOR BALANCING CLASSIC FORMALITY WITH CONTEMPORARY GARDEN STYLE. EACH DESIGN IS ONE OF A KIND YET RECOGNIZABLE. WHETHER DESIGNING GARDENS FOR PUBLIC SPACES, CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS, MUSEUMS, ROYAL FAMILIES, OR PRIVATE CLIENTS, THE WIRTZ NAME IS SYNONYMOUS WITH BOLD GESTURES, SCULPTURAL HEDGES, AND UNEXPECTED PLANT SELECTION. MARTIN'S FATHER, THE LATE JACQUES WIRTZ, FOUNDED WIRTZ INTERNATIONAL AND WAS COMPARED TO ANDRE LE NOTRE, THE DESIGNER OF THE GARDENS OF VERSAILLES. FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS, MARTIN AND BROTHER PETER, HAVE LED WIRTZ INTERNATIONAL AND RECEIVED WORLDWIDE ACCLAIM FOR PROJECTS COMPLETED IN EUROPE, ASIA AND THE UNITED STATES.ON SATURDAY, WORLD-RENOWNED ENTERTAINING EXPERT BRONSON VAN WYCK WAS THE FEATURED SPEAKER DAZZLING THE AUDIENCE BY DISTILLING THE ESSENTIAL PILLARS OF THE ART OF CELEBRATION INTO AN AFTERNOON TO REMEMBER WITH TIPS FOR HOSTS AND HOSTESSES AS WELL AS BEHIND-THE-SCENES SECRETS FROM TWENTY YEARS AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE PARTY PLANNING INDUSTRY. FLOWER MAGAZINE WAS THE NATIONAL MEDIA SPONSOR AND AROUND 880 GUESTS WERE IN ATTENDANCE. TO CLOSE OUT THE SHOW LECTURE SCHEDULE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, BLACKBERRY FARM AND BLACKBERRY MOUNTAIN PROPRIETOR MARY CELESTE BEALL EXPLORED THE EVOLUTION OF CREATING WELCOMING SPACES WITH BLACKBERRY FARM CO-FOUNDER KREIS BEALL IN A CONVERSATION ABOUT HOSPITALITY AND DESIGN FOR TWO ERAS OF BLACKBERRY.
