Locate Arts (DBA: Tri-Star Arts) serves Tennessee by for others.) spotlighting and growing the contemporary visual art scenes in each region and fostering a unified statewide art scene. Our programs promote art dialogue between the different cities in the state, and between the state and the nation.
The Visiting Speaker Series commissions respected artists, critics, curators and arts professionals who live outside of Tennessee to come and work alongside those inside the state to further publicize the excellence of work being made locally. Speakers leave with a positive impression of our community and share the experience with their own networks. Audiences are eager to learn about the art world beyond Tennessee, and local artists, students, and faculty benefit greatly from outside perspectives and critique. The dialogue and feedback from visiting arts professionals sparks new ideas and enriches the work and practices of local artists and professionals. The art exhibitions take place across the state of Tennessee and partner with existing local organizations. Each year, we commission innovative and experimental work in group or solo exhibitions by emerging and established artists alike. The exhibitions feature sculpture, installation and new media art. Half of the exhibiting artists practice in Tennessee and half practice in other parts of the nation or world. At least half of all artists represented in exhibitions are persons of color. 1000 Participants(Less than expected due to COVID-19). (Grants $ 720)
Locatearts.org is a web resource promoting contemporary art exhibitions currently on view in Tennessee. The website hosts a visual artist directory accessible to any person looking to discover and connect with contemporary artists throughout the state. Studio visits and art interviews that are published on the blog highlight contemporary art in Tennessee and provide special insight into artist practices. Locatearts.org is continually updated and utilized as a resource for finding contemporary art in Tennessee. Per year, the website displays at least 700 contemporary art exhibitions that are on view, 200 contemporary artists profiles, and blog posts (studio visits and interviews). Locatearts.org receives 20,500+ unique visitors per year. (Grants $ 1,750)
