Organizations Filed Purposes:
To empower and support those at risk or affected by kidney disease. Its vision is a Tennessee where the rate of kidney disease is minimized and everyone who needs care receives care.
Transportation and Emergency Assistance - provides a lifeline for very low-income individuals with End Stage Renal Disease who cannot afford the cost of transportation to and from life-sustaining dialysis appointments. TKF is the only organization providing transportation assistance for dialysis patients and transplant candidates in Middle Tennessee and funded more than 70,000 trips in 2019-2020 year. Also, the emergency assistance program aids individuals who are facing the termination of utilities, eviction from housing, and depleted food supplies which are essential to kidney health. The program provides relief in times of crisis that allows individuals to plan and save for the following months and concentrate on their health outcomes.
Preventive services and Community Education - provides free prevention kidney health screenings throughout Middle Tennessee at workplaces, churches, community health fairs and other places it can reach individuals who are most at risk for kidney disease. A kidney health screening includes a medical history questionnaire, blood pressure reading, height and weight measurements, and a urinalysis. Every participant talks one-on-one with a physician or health educator to understand their results, possible risks and action steps. TFR screened more than 540 individuals for kidney disease in 2019-2020 year. TKF provides exhibits at community events and public education presentations at workplaces, churches, health fairs and civic groups to educate the community about kidney disease and identifying possible risk factors.
Professional Education - provides administrative support related to the coordination of transportation, community education and prevention program services. TKF participates in and hosts professional education events alongside kidney health professionals to maintain the most current level of knowledge about kidney health trends.
