The mission of the Longleaf Alliance is the restoration of Longleaf Pine forests ecosystems across the range, emphasizing its economic and ecological values through research, education and outreach.
All other activities carried out in pursuit of the mission of the organization. This includes Academies in which technical expertise is shared with landowners and service providers, conferences and workshops, providing of on-line resources, and other coordination between private landowners, forest industries, state and federal agencies, conservation groups, researchers, and other enthusiasts interested in managing and restoring longleaf pine forests for their ecological and economic benefit.
US Fish and Wildlife Service partners with LLA to provide support, technical expertise and equipment to assist in the Forestry recovery effort on Tyndall AFB. Activities include but are not limited to project management and oversight, debris removal, site preparation, purchase and planting of longleaf pine seedlings, and GIS database management on 4000 acres. Restoration activities will reduce wildfire risk, and improve habitat for threatened, endangered, and candidate species known to occur on Tyndall AFB, minimize soil disturbance, and not interfere with the base mission.
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation - Accelerating At-risk Species Recovery in the Gulf Coast Plain Ecosystem Partnership Landscape (AL, FL) partners with the LLA to accelerate the recovery of declining and at-risk species, including bobwhite quail, gopher tortoise and reticulated flatwoods salamander within the western panhandle of Florida and southern Alabama.
