IN 2019, TWF INVESTED IN 21 ORGANIZATIONS AND COLLABORATIVES PREDOMINATELY THROUGHOUT THE FIVE-COUNTY REGION OF GREATER BIRMINGHAM AS WELL AS STATEWIDE THAT EMBRACE A TWO-GENERATION APPROACH, APPLY A PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY LENS OR OTHER EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGY PROVEN TO CREATE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE RESULTS INCLUDED STRONGER REGULATION OF CHILD CARE, A CRITICAL WORK SUPPORT FOR WOMEN AND ALL FAMILIES IN ALABAMA, AS WELL AS THREE PERMANENT COLLABORATIVE HUBS IN JEFFERSON, WALKER, AND SHELBY COUNTIES PROVIDING SEAMLESS, UNDUPLICATED SERVICES TO FAMILIES IN THE GREATER BIRMINGHAM REGION IN AN EFFORT TO DISRUPT ECONOMIC INSECURITY.
THE WOMEN'S FUND OF GREATER BIRMINGHAM (TWF) COMMISSIONS AND COMMUNICATES RESEARCH TO SHAPE POLICY, SPUR PUBLIC DIALOGUE, AND ELEVATE ISSUES MOST IMPACTING WOMEN'S ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY. IN 2019, TWF PRODUCED AN ANNUAL RESEARCH PUBLICATION, CLEARING THE PATH. THE REPORT MAPPED THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM, INCLUDING THE INTERSECTION WITH THE FAMILY SUPPORT SYSTEM. THE REPORT EXPLORED HOW THE WORKFORCE SYSTEM'S POLICIES, PROGRAMS AND FUNDING CAN BETTER SERVE WOMEN AND FAMILIES. THE RELEASE OF THE REPORT WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENT HEADLINED BY A HOST OF LOCAL AND STATEWIDE LEADERS.
BECAUSE CHALLENGES FACING WOMEN EXIST AT MULTIPLE LEVELS, THE WOMEN'S FUND OF GREATER BIRMINGHAM (TWF), EMPLOYS ADVOCACY (IN ADDITION TO OUR PHILANTHROPIC STRATEGY) AS A CORE APPROACH TO DISMANTLING OR IMPROVING LOCAL AND STATE SYSTEMS THAT IMPEDE WOMEN'S ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY. IN 2019, TWF POLICY AGENDA INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING PRIORITIES: ENSURING A GENDER-INCLUSIVE WORKFORCE, EXPANDING AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE, ELEVATING QUALITY CHILD CARE, AND EQUITABLE WAGES FOR WOMEN.
