MOBILE INFIRMARY ASSOCIATION ("MOBILE INFIRMARY") IS LICENSED TO OPERATE 677 BEDS IN THE MOBILE INFIRMARY MEDICAL CENTER INCLUDING 41 PHYSICAL REHABILITATION BEDS IN THE J.L. BEDSOLE/ROTARY REHABILITATION HOSPITAL DIVISION, PROVIDING SERVICES NECESSARY TO DELIVER ESSENTIAL HEALTHCARE TO THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, HANDICAP, OR AGE. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED MARCH 31, 2020, MOBILE INFIRMARY SERVICED ALMOST 26,000 INPATIENTS AND PROVIDED OVER 257,000 OUTPATIENT SERVICES, DELIVERED 855 BABIES, AND PERFORMED ALMOST 20,000 SURGERIES, INCLUDING 403 OPEN-HEART CASES. MOBILE INFIRMARY OPERATES A FULL-TIME LEVEL II EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, OPEN TO ALL PERSONS WITHOUT REGARD FOR ABILITY TO PAY, WHICH TREATED OVER 49,500 PEOPLE DURING THE YEAR. THERE ARE MORE THAN 650 PHYSICIANS ON THE OPEN MEDICAL STAFF. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) AS THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN THE REGION TO ACQUIRE THE DA VINCI SURGICAL SYSTEM (ONE OF THE MOST PRECISE AND LEAST INVASIVE SURGICAL TREATMENTS AVAILABLE), MOBILE INFIRMARY HAS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE ROBOTIC PROGRAM ALONG THE GULF COAST. THE DA VINCI SYSTEM PUTS THE SURGEON'S HANDS AT THE CONTROLS OF A STATE-OF-THE-ART ROBOTIC PLATFORM WITH 3D, HIGH- DEFINITION VISION AND MINIATURIZED, WRISTED INSTRUMENTS DESIGNED TO HELP DOCTORS TAKE SURGERY BEYOND THE LIMITS OF THE HUMAN HAND. THE DA VINCI SYSTEM ENABLES SURGEONS TO PERFORM EVEN THE MOST COMPLEX AND DELICATE PROCEDURES THROUGH VERY SMALL INCISIONS WITH UNMATCHED PRECISION. ALL SURGERIES ARE PERFORMED WITH A TEAM OF HIGHLY SKILLED AND TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. IN 2012, INFIRMARY HEALTH (AN AFFILIATED COMPANY) FORMED A VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE TO SERVE AS A GOVERNING BODY FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT FOR THE SYSTEM, INCLUDING MOBILE INFIRMARY. THIS COMMITTEE, KNOWN AS IHELP, HELPS BETTER MANAGE STAFF AND ORGANIZATIONAL RESOURCES BY ESTABLISHING A PROCESS TO EVALUATE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND ENSURE OUR COMMUNITY PROJECTS ARE IN LINE WITH OUR MISSION. THE OPERATION BOUNCE-BACK PROGRAM OFFERS MEDICALLY SUPERVISED EXERCISE, EDUCATION, AND COUNSELING TO PATIENTS WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES. THE PROGRAM ASSISTS THEM IN LEADING PRODUCTIVE AND ACTIVE LIVES. OPERATION BOUNCE-BACK IS ONE OF THE 10 LARGEST CARDIAC REHABILITATION PROGRAMS IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE FIRST CARDIAC REHABILITATION PROGRAM IN ALABAMA. PATIENTS OF ALL AGES, AND WITH MANY FORMS OF HEART DISEASE, BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM. MOBILE INFIRMARY PARTICIPATES IN THE MEDICARE AND MEDICAID PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION TO THAT, MOBILE INFIRMARY PROVIDES CARE TO PATIENTS WHO MEET THE CRITERIA OF ITS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE POLICY. THE ORGANIZATION HAS EXPANDED THE FEDERAL POVERTY GUIDELINES TO AFFORD CHARITABLE CARE TO LARGER NUMBERS OF ITS PATIENT POPULATION. ALSO, AS A RESULT OF OPERATING THE ONLY HOSPITAL BASED INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC UNIT IN THE COMMUNITY FOR ADULTS, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF INDIGENT CARE PROVIDED THROUGH THIS SERVICE. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CHARGES FOREGONE FOR HEALTHCARE SERVICES AND SUPPLIES FURNISHED UNDER THE ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE POLICY FOR FISCAL- YEAR ENDING 2020 WAS OVER 39,850,000, INCLUDING PRESUMPTIVELY ELIGIBLE PATIENTS. THE DEBAKEY DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAM VEHICLE TRAVELS TO SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT FIVE COUNTIES OF SOUTHWEST ALABAMA TO EDUCATE CHILDREN ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ILLEGAL DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE. IN ADDITION TO VISITING PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS, THE VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY EVENTS AND OTHER SPECIAL PROGRAMS. RECOGNIZED BY THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION, THE VEHICLE WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE COUNTRY. SINCE IT BEGAN IN 1994, MORE THAN 124,000 STUDENTS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM. IN NOVEMBER OF 2017, A NEW DRUG BUS WAS DEBUTED. MOBILE INFIRMARY PROVIDES NUMEROUS COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, SUPPORT GROUPS, HEALTH FAIRS, AND SCREENINGS TO BENEFIT AREA CITIZENS. THE PROGRAMS INCLUDE: SKIN CANCER, PROSTATE, HEART AND BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PARTICIPATES IN AND FACILITATES A NUMBER OF HEALTH RELATED WALKS. THESE PROGRAMS BENEFIT THOUSANDS OF AREA CITIZENS ANNUALLY. EACH YEAR, MOBILE INFIRMARY PARTNERS WITH THE MOBILE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AND SERVED AS THE FIRST HOST SITE IN OUR REGION FOR PROJECT SEARCH, AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, PROVIDING THEM WITH ON-THE-JOB TRAINING DURING THEIR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. DIRECTORS, MANAGERS AND THEIR DEPARTMENTS VOLUNTEER TO HOST INTERNS IN THEIR AREAS BY TAKING THE TIME TO COACH AND MENTOR STUDENTS. MOBILE INFIRMARY PROVIDES AN ON-SITE CLASSROOM FOR DAILY USE, AN ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE EVENT, GRADUATION CEREMONY, AND VARIOUS EVENTS PROVIDING GIFTS, CERTIFICATES, INVITATIONS, REFRESHMENTS, AND MARKETING. MOBILE INFIRMARY OPERATES A CHARITY PHARMACY PROGRAM THAT CONNECTS LOW INCOME PATIENTS WHO QUALIFY WITH FREE MEDICATIONS THAT THEY MAY NOT OTHERWISE GET FILLED DUE TO THE COSTS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING MARCH 31, 2020, MOBILE INFIRMARY PROVIDED OVER 95,000 IN FREE MEDICATIONS. THE MOBILE INFIRMARY CASE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT ALSO HELPS OTHER PATIENTS REGISTER FOR INDUSTRY SPONSORED PROGRAMS THAT HELP PATIENTS GET PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED AT NO OR REDUCED COST. MOBILE INFIRMARY OPERATES THE E.A. ROBERTS ALZHEIMER'S CENTER WHICH IS THE FIRST ADULT DAY CENTER IN SOUTH ALABAMA DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR PEOPLE WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AND OTHER FORMS OF DEMENTIA. THE CENTER IS A SECURE, 8,000-SQUARE-FOOT BUILDING WHICH INCLUDES LIVING ROOM AREAS, A DEN, A KITCHEN, REST AREAS, ENCLOSED COURTYARDS WITH FOUNTAINS, SCREENED PORCHES, AND A LARGE FENCED YARD COMPLETE WITH A WALKING PATH AND PUTTING GREEN. PATIENTS RECEIVE A VARIETY OF THERAPIES TO IMPROVE THEIR COGNITIVE ABILITIES AND PHYSICAL WELLBEING. ADDITIONALLY, THE E. A. ROBERTS ALZHEIMER'S CENTER PROVIDES SERVICES TO CAREGIVERS INCLUDING AN ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP THAT MEETS REGULARLY. THE CENTER HOSTS COMMUNITY RESOURCE EXPERTS TO ASSIST CLIENT'S FAMILIES WITH ISSUES LIKE FINANCIAL PLANNING, HEALTH EDUCATION AND STRESS MANAGEMENT. THESE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE TO THE COMMUNITY. WITH THE GOAL OF BRINGING AWARENESS TO AMERICAN HEART MONTH AND HEART DISEASE, INFIRMARY HEALTH PROVIDED FREE SCREENINGS TO 300 COMMUNITY MEMBERS. FIFTY VOLUNTEERS HELPED PROVIDE CHOLESTEROL, WEIGHT, AND BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS. 300 COMMUNITY MEMBERS WERE SCREENED--48 PERCENT OF WHICH HAD ABNORMAL CHL RESULTS AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. INFIRMARY HEALTH ALSO WALKED IN THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MOBILE COUNTY HEART WALK FOR WHICH EMPLOYEES RAISED MORE THAN 10,000. OPERATION BOUNCE-BACK PATIENTS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE FUNDRAISING THROUGH PURCHASING T-SHIRTS AND REGISTERING FOR THE WALK. INFIRMARY HEALTH EMPLOYEES SUPPORTED THE MARCH OF DIMES THROUGH T-SHIRT SALES DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL. MORE THAN 25 EMPLOYEES ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL WALK. INFIRMARY HEALTH SUPPORTS OUR LOCAL AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY WITH NUMEROUS FUNDRAISERS AND EVENTS THROUGH VOLUNTEER, IN-KIND, AND FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS SUCH AS: MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER, CHILI COOK- OFF, LOOK GOOD...FEEL BETTER SUPPORT GROUP, REACH TO RECOVERY AND NUMEROUS OTHER AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. EMPLOYEES WORE PINK ON "THINK PINK THURSDAYS" IN OCTOBER TO RAISE AWARENESS OF BREAST CANCER. THE MOBILE INFIRMARY CAMPUS WAS PAINTED PINK WITH BANNERS AND SIGNS CREATING AWARENESS OF BREAST CANCER AND THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION. INFIRMARY HEALTH EMPLOYEES NOT ONLY HAVE A TEAM EACH YEAR FOR THE MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER WALK, EMPLOYEES ALSO SERVE ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE FOR THE EVENT. INFIRMARY HEALTH SERVES AS A FLAGSHIP SPONSOR FOR THE EVENT THAT HAD MORE THAN 25,000 PARTICIPANTS, AND THE MOBILE INFIRMARY TEAM RAISED MORE THAN 40,000 FOR BREAST CANCER. INFIRMARY HEALTH ALSO PARTNERED WITH FOX10 NEWS STATION TO OFFER FREE SKIN AND PROSTATE CANCER SCREENINGS TO THE COMMUNITY. A TOTAL OF 300 PEOPLE WERE SCREENED FOR SKIN CANCER. INFIRMARY HEALTH RAISED MONEY FOR UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY THROUGH EMPLOYEE T-SHIRT SALES. UCP IS DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE INDEPENDENCE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, FROM EARLY INTERVENTION TO ADULT SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS. THE DIABETES RESOURCE CENTER AT MOBILE INFIRMARY PROVIDED FREE DIABETES AND GESTATIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION TO SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT INSURANCE. THE CLASSES PROVIDED HEALTH NUTRITION EDUCATION TO HELP THESE INDIVIDUALS BETTER MANAGE THEIR DISEASE. MOBILE INFIRMARY SERVES AS A CORPORATE "BIG" WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SOUTH ALABAMA TO PROVIDE EMPLOYEE MENTORS TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. EACH WEEK MOBILE INFIRMARY ALLOWS THEIR CORPORATE BIGS TO GO MEET THEIR LITTLES FOR ONE HOUR DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. THESE INDIVIDUALS PROVIDE ENCOURAGEMENT AND FRIENDSHIP WHICH HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THESE YOUNG PEOPLE. MOBILE IS HOME TO THE REESE'S SENIOR BOWL.
