NEIGHBORWORKS LINCOLN REVITALIZES NEIGHBORHOODS AND SUPPORTS HOMEOWNERSHIP KEEPING LINCOLN A SAFE AND PROSPEROUS COMMUNITY.
HOME BUYER SERVICES - NWL OFFERS PRE-PURCHASE HOMEBUYER EDUCATION IN ADDITION TO HOMEOWNERSHIP FINANCING FOR QUALIFYING INDIVIDUALS. IN YEAR 2020, WE PROVIDED 140 HOUSEHOLDS (213 INDIVIDUALS) PRE-PURCHASE HOMEBUYER EDUCATION. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE UTILIZED THE EHOMEAMERICA EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR THE EDUCATION PROCESS. WE ADDED 2 HOUR-LONG WEBINARS; THE FIRST DESCRIBING THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF OUR OWN PROGRAM AND THE SECOND DESCRIBING THE REHABILITATION PROCESS. WE ASSISTED 58 HOMEBUYERS WITH THE PURCHASE OF A HOME. FIFTY-THREE OF THOSE HOMEBUYERS RECEIVED DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE THROUGH OUR PROGRAM. FAIR HOUSING ACTIVITIES INCLUDED SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION, EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, AND DISTRIBUTION OF RESOURCE INFORMATION.
REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT - NWL ACQUIRES SUBSTANDARD OR VACANT PROPERTIES THROUGHOUT THE CITY FOR REDEVELOPMENT, LEADING TO ENHANCED QUALITY AND VALUE OF THE HOUSING STOCK AND PRESERVING THE NEIGHBORHOODS. IN 2020, SEVEN HOMES WERE CONSTRUCTED IN SCATTERED SITES. THREE ADDITIONAL NEW SCATTERED SITES STARTED CONSTRUCTION IN 2020 AND ARE TO BE COMPLETED IN 2021. THERE ARE OTHER SITES/PROPERTIES THAT HAVE BEEN ACQUIRED AND PLANNED FOR REDEVELOPMENT IN 2021.
COMMUNITY BUILDING - NWL COMMUNITY BUILDERS CONDUCTED TWO SURVEYS IN THE MALONE/HAWLEY AREA- STRATEGY IMPACT AND COMMUNITY IMPACT MEASUREMENT FOR ANALYZING THE IMPACT OF WORK DONE BY NWL. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY WERE PRESENTED IN 2020. OTHER ACTIVITIES: PLANNED AND HOSTED THE ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOOD FORUM; COORDINATED WITH RESIDENTS, CITY AND PARKS STAFF, AND BUSINESSES ON IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS; PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENTS AND LEADERSHIP BUILDING EXERCISES, PARTICIPATED IN EFFORTS TO ADDRESS "AFFORDABLE HOUSING" ISSUES AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC; AND CONTINUED WITH LOCAL PARTNERS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD AND EDUCATION ON HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHOICES. THE COMMERCIAL REVITALIZATION ACTIVITIES ALONG N 27TH ST. CORRIDOR CONTINUED WITH BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS, MARKETING AND OTHER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIONS.
