Providing habitat for all living things through conservation, education and experience to promote a lasting connection with the natural world and its resources.
The primary service work of the Prairie Pines Partners is to provide public access and natural resource education at the Prairie Pines Nature Preserve. The Preserve is open to the public every Saturday and at other times for special events. Trails with interpretive signage are open for hiking and there are monthly nature-based educational activities and information for children and adults.
Prairie Pines opened its Welcome Center to the community for meetings and training sessions.
The main accomplishment of the Prairie Pines for 2019 was to provide greater public access to the nature preserve due to increased open hours. We provided imporved nature-based educational activities for the public and opportunities to increase natural resource awareness with walking tours and events including a nature art camp for children. We made significant progress on our efforts to create a trail connection to an existing trail network. The first phase of engineering for the trail was completed and grant writing began. There was ongoing progress made on planning for future improvements to the Welcome Center.
