REINSURANCE AND INSURANCE SEMINARS PROGRAM SERVICE-Reinsurance and Insurance related organizations operate in a constantly changing environment and for many years the IRU's educational programs - a combination of industry-wide conferences and specific technical seminars, workshops and other educations events - assist member companies personnel in becoming better informed. This includes management of known risks and research and dissemination of potential risks. These programs numbering 6 to 10 each year also provide attendees with networking opportunities. IRU organizes several conferences and seminars annually including in 2013, the Spring and Fall Conferences, an actuarial principles seminar, a claims related seminar, a reinsurance structure, form and function workshop, a catastrophe modeling seminar and an industry networking event. Conferences are open only for attendance by representatives of member companies and the remaining events are open to all but with a higher registration fee for non-member company attendees.

JOURNAL OF REINSURANCE PROGRAM SERVICE-Since 1994 the Intermediaries & Reinsurance Underwriters Association has published a quarterly publication called the Journal of Reinsurance. The purpose of the Journal is to encourage an exchange of ideas and to disseminate educational information for the benefit and betterment of the Intermediaries & Reinsurance Underwriters Association membership and the reinsurance community. The Journal of Reinsurance is designed to keep reinsurance and insurance underwriters and executives, brokers, regulators, academicians, consultants, attorneys and other persons interested in reinsurance abreast of developments which will have a bearing on the industry. Risk management issues and developments in contract formation, interpretation and usage are frequent topics.

IRU INTERNSHIP PROGRAM SERVICE-IRU offers an industry-unique internship program. This program provides an opportunity for college juniors and seniors to learn about the reinsurance industry and gain practical experience in its operation. It is an eight week summer program and provides the intern an opportunity to evaluate reinsurance as a potential career. Several past interns are now employed in the insurance and reinsurance industry. In order to maximize value to the intern the goal has always been to spend four weeks with an underwriting company sponsor and four weeks with an intermediary company sponsor. Due to available sponsors and logistics this is not always possible. At the conclusion of the program, each intern is required to submit a paper to the IRU Internship Committee. The paper should evidence the depth of knowledge attained in a specific segment of the business via the internship experience, as well as outside research. Each intern is encouraged to select a topic that is of particular interest to them, utilizing the expertise of their sponsor/host company and the contacts made during the program. The papers are judged by the Internship Committee members and the intern submitting the most outstanding paper, as judged by the committee, will be eligible to receive a $2,500 scholarship award. Additionally, they are invited, as a guest of the IRU, to attend the following Spring Conference at which they make a presentation to all present. In the event of a tie, the committee reserves the right to split the award.
