Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF THE NJ CHAPTER, AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS, INC IS TO ATTAIN PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SOCIAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FOR ALL INFANTS, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION, THE NJAAP SHALL SUPPORT THE PROFESSIONAL NEEDS OF ITS MEMBERS.
THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CHAPTER SHALL BE THE INSTRUCTION OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH CARE OF ALL INFANTS, CHILREN, AND ADOLESCENTS IN NEW JERSEY, AND TO OTHERWISE PURSUE THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ACADEMY AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL.
MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR PEDIATRIC PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS AND PEDIATRIC SPECIALISTS PARTICIPATING IN 8 NJ REGIONAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH HUBS TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE SCREENING, ASSESSMENT, DIAGNOSIS, AND TREATMENT OF CHILDREN PRESENTING IN PEDIATRIC SETTINGS WITH MENTAL/BEHAVIORAL HEALTH DISORDERS. EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS INCLUDE MONTHLY CME WEBINAR SERIES ON VARIED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TOPICS AND AMERICAN BOARD OF PEDIATRICS (ABP) APPROVED MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION (MOC) PART 4 QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (MENTAL HEALTH COLLABORATIVE) TO INCREASE COMFORT WITH SCREENING, REFERRAL AND CARE COORDINATION BY THE PEDIATRIC PRACTICE TEAM.
NJIN - THE NJIN MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND INCREASE IMMUNIZATIONS ACROSS THE LIFE SPAN. TO THIS END, NJIN CONDUCTED OVER 30 MEETINGS DESIGNED TO INCREASE VACCINATION AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING AMONG HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. NJIN WAS ALSO ACTIVE IN ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES HAVING SPEARHEADED EFFORTS TO BRING TOGETHER 14 PROFESSIONAL HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVANCE LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS THAT ALLOW FOR ONLY A MEDICAL EXEMPTION FROM SCHOOL-REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS. WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH NJAFP, NJIN CONDUCTED THE JOINT PROJECT ECHO IMMUNIZATION PROVIDING PHYSICIANS AND RESIDENTS ACROSS THE STATE WITH MESSAGING AND STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING ADULT IMMUNIZATION RATES. IN ADDITION TO HAVING COMPLETED THE FIRST HPV PROJECT ECHO, NJIN ALSO MANAGED THE NEW JERSEY HPV ROUND TABLE. NJIN CONTINUES TO PUBLISHED AND DISTRIBUTED TWO MONTHLY IMMUNIZATION NEWSLETTERS TO A COMBINED AUDIENCE OF OVER 2,200 MEMBERS OF THE NEW JERSEY IMMUNIZATION NETWORK, THE NEW JERSEY CHAPTER, AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS AND ACP I RAISE THE RATES MEMBERS. IN 2019, NJIN INTRODUCED THE FAMILIES FIGHTING FLU FEST, COORDINATING THE DISTRIBUTION OF OVER 400 DOSES OF FLU VACCINE TO UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS IN THE TRENTON AND PATERSON AREAS.
EPIC CAN: THE EPIC CAN (NOW KNOWN AS HEALTHY SPACES) PROGRAM UTILIZES A THREE-PRONGED APPROACH TO TARGET PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND CUSTOMIZE INTERVENTIONS NEEDED TO MITIGATE DOWNSTREAM COSTS. THE PROGRAM INTEGRATES A PRIMARY PREVENTION APPROACH THAT IS TRAUMA-INFORMED AND INCLUDES RESILIENCE-BUILDING PRACTICES, ALL BASED ON ACES SCIENCE. THE 3 PROGRAM COMPONENTS INCLUDE: 1) AMERICAN BOARD OF PEDIATRICS (ABP) APPROVED MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION (MOC) PART 4 QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM TO EDUCATE PEDIATRIC PROVIDERS ABOUT ACES SCIENCE AND HOW TO INTEGRATE TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE AND RESILIENCE-BASED PRACTICES; 2) EDUCATOR COLLABORATIVE TO FACILITATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOL NURSES AND PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE TEAMS; 3) COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE TO CONVENE QUARTERLY MEETINGS BETWEEN SCHOOL NURSES, PEDIATRIC PRACTICES AND OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS/ORGANIZATIONS.
