THE INSTITUTE OF MUSIC FOR CHILDREN, A COMMUNITY-CENTERED, ARTS-BASED YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION, ENGAGES CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN ARTISTIC EXPRESSION AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS. OVER 1,000 YOUTH ANNUALLY ARE PROVIDED ECONOMICALLY ACCESSIBLE, HIGH-QUALITY ARTS TRAINING IN AN INSPIRING AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT. GUIDED BY THE BELIEF THAT ALL CHILDREN DESERVE ACCESS TO THE BENEFITS OF THE ARTS, NO STUDENT IS EVER TURNED AWAY BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED. CORE PROGRAMS ARTS EDUCATION SERVICES OFFERED: 1.AFTERSCHOOL INSTITUTE: OFFERS 24-WEEK SESSIONS OF PRIVATE AND GROUP INSTRUCTION FOR 350 STUDENTS (8850+ TOTAL SERVICE HOURS) FROM OCTOBER- MAY; WEEKLY ONE-HOUR CLASSES IN: - INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (PIANO, DRUMS, GUITAR, HARP, VIOLIN, BRASS, WIND, HORNS) - PERFORMING ARTS (HIP-HOP, , MODERN,, BREAKDANCE, VOICE, MUSICAL THEATER) - RELATED ARTS (CULINARY ART, VISUAL ART, CREATIVE WRITING, ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCTION, VIDEO PRODUCTION) 2.SUMMER INSTITUTE: PROVIDES AN INTENSIVE ARTS PROGRAM THAT INSTRUCTS 225 YOUTH (AGES 5-16) IN A VARIETY OF ARTISTIC FORMS FOR 7.5 HOURS DAILY, 5 DAYS A WEEK, FOR 5 WEEKS IN JULY AND AUGUST. (35,000+ TOTAL SERVICE HOURS ANNUALLY) IN ADDITION TO OFFERING MOST OF THE SAME CLASSES OFFERED AS PART OF THE AFTERSCHOOL INSTITUTE (ABOVE), ADDITIONAL SUMMERTIME OFFERINGS INCLUDE: - PUBLIC SPEAKING, CREATIVE WRITING, TAIKO DRUMMING, CAJON DRUMMING, RECORDING ARTIST, YOGA, MEDITATION, KIDSTEEM, JUNKYARD BAND AND CAPOEIRA 3.YOUTH LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE: (7,000 TOTAL SERVICE HOURS) TRAINS AND HIRES 25-35 TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS AS CLASSROOM AND OFFICE ASSISTANTS, AND OFFERS FINANCIAL, EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND ACCESS COLLEGE PREPARATORY WORKSHOPS AND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS. 4.FRIDAY NIGHT TEEN ARTS PROGRAM: GATHERS 65+ TEENS FROM 4:45PM TO 9:30PM EACH FRIDAY FOR A PEER DISCUSSION GROUP, TWO 1.5-HOUR ARTS CLASSES (PIANO, GUITAR, ACTING, SINGING, ELECTRONIC MUSIC, BAND, PERFORMANCE CHOIR AND DANCE), A SHARED MEAL, AND THEY END THE NIGHT WITH GAME TIME - GROUP GAMES THAT HAVE THEM WORKING IN GROUPS, LAUGHING AND ENJOYING TIME TOGETHER. 5.COMMUNITY INSTITUTE: (11,500 TOTAL SERVICE HOURS) TEAMS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, CHURCHES, AND SCHOOLS TO BRING ITS QUALITY ARTS PROGRAMMING TO 425 ADDITIONAL STUDENTS ACROSS DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES, MANY OF WHICH ARE SEVERELY AT-RISK AT 6-10 SITES ANNUALLY.
