Teaching English as a Second Language
Literacy - The goal of the ESL program is to assist the participant develop the essential English communication skills including reading and writing, as well as Civic rights and responsibilities as a US citizen. Provide employment skills that will support the ability to fully utilize vocational/occupational training services services and/or employment to achieve social and economic self-sufficiency. The participants will be able to gain, advance, and retain employment or enter occupational or higher levels of training as well as function in basic life situations, to carry out their roles and responsibilities as workers, parents and family members, citizens, and community members, fulfilling their civic responsibilities. All classroom instruction is contextualized: Civics, Occupational and Employability skills are integrated in our curriculum from the beginning so that participants learn about their civic rights and responsibilities and develop their educational skills within job-related and life-skill related contexts. It incorporates information about elections, Local, State and Federal government, citizenship, personal aptitudes, value systems, career exploration, employability skills, such as job search strategies, resume writing, job interviewing techniques, and job maintenance skills.
Center for Hispanic Policy - The goal of this program is to assist Hispanic entrepreneurs develop innovative strategies to start, maintain, expand, and/or grow their business by using proven business/marketing practices and digital technology and also developing their business plan and accessing capital. We identify a lack of technological knowledge and assist businesses in understanding the possibilities and power of using emerging technology to brand their company and attract new customers from other communities. This program also helps local community organizations to get the word out on job fairs and hidden market hiring; Assist in establishing relationships with various organizations and local municipalities to allow community residents access to capital and free services available to them; Reaching out to the community to assess the needs and how to do better service.
