IN 2019-2020, MUSTARD SEED EDUCATED 245 STUDENTS IN ITS RIGOROUS ACADEMIC PROGRAM THAT IS INFUSED WITH ARTS, FAITH, AND SERVICE. THE SCHOOL'S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY INCLUDES EXPERIENTIAL, HANDS-ON LEARNING, AND A STRUCTURED SOCIAL CURRICULUM. THE CORE OF THE SCHOOL'S MISSION IS TO SERVE STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERED HAVING THE LEAST. THIS YEAR 60% OF THE STUDENTS RECEIVED NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID. IN 2019-2020, THE TOTAL AID WAS OVER 2.1M AND PROVIDED TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR 145 CHILDREN. GRADUATES OF MUSTARD SEED GO ON TO SUCCEED IN COMPETITIVE HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE GREATER NEW YORK/NORTHERN NEW JERSEY AREA.
THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR WAS THE SECOND YEAR OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MUSTARD SEED'S STRATEGIC PLAN, THRIVING ROOTS AND FLOURISHING BRANCHES. A COMPLETE REBRAND OF THE SCHOOL, INCLUDING AN UPDATED WEBSITE, AND MARKETING EFFORT TOOK PLACE. WE REAFFIRM OUR COMMITMENT TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATION, THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THAT WE SERVE, AND OUR IDENTITY AS A COMMUNITY OF FAITH. WE CONTINUE TO BUDGET CAREFULLY FOR THE STRATEGIC PLAN WHILE MAINTAINING AN EXCELLENT PROGRAM.
THE END OF THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR BROUGHT THE PANDEMIC AND THE NEED TO MOVE THE SCHOOL TO DISTANCE LEARNING. WE CONTINUED TO SERVE STUDENTS EXTREMELY WELL WITH TEACHERS TEACHING REMOTELY THROUGH VARIOUS TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS. STUDENTS WERE ENGAGED WITH THEIR TEACHERS AND EACH OTHER OVER ZOOM AND GOOGLE CLASSROOM. IN SPITE OF THE DISTANCE, TEACHERS BUILT STRONG LEARNING COMMUNITIES THAT SUPPORTED EACH OTHER DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.
