Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO INSPIRE PEOPLE WORLDWIDE THROUGH STORIES, WALKING, AND HOSPITALITY ALONG THE ANCIENT PATH OF ABRAHAM.
TO SUPPORT LOCAL PARTNERS IN THE MIDDLE EAST IN DEVELOPING THE ABRAHAM PATH, A LONG-DISTANCE WALKING TRAIL ACROSS THE REGION, AS: A CATALYST FOR SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM; A PLACE OF MEETING AND CONNECTION BETWEEN PEOPLE FROM THE MIDDLE EAST AND PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD; AND A CREATIVE SPACE FOR STORIES THAT HIGHLIGHT THE UNIQUE CULTURE, HERITAGE AND HOSPITALITY OF THE REGION.
THE ABRAHAM PATH INITIATIVE (API) CREATES VALUABLE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PEOPLES OF THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE WIDER WORLD BY CATALYZING SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE REGION THROUGH EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM AND EXCEPTIONAL STORYTELLING. IN 2019, API USHERED 100 PALESTINIAN STUDENTS FROM UNRWA REFUGEE CAMPS TO WALK IN THE FRESH AIR ON THE MASAR IBRAHIM, WHICH WE CO-BUILT WITH OUR LOCAL NGO PARTNER. TALA, A 13-YEAR OLD FROM THE AL ARRUB CAMP OF HEBRON, TOLD US, "I WISH ALL UNRWA STUDENTS IN PALESTINE COULD HAVE THE SAME CHANCE WE HAD TO DISCOVER OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY." PRESS COVERAGE INCLUDED NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER AGAIN NAMING THE MASAR IBRAHIM ONE OF THE WORLD'S TOP TEN TRAILS IN 2019. IN THE KURDISH REGION OF NORTHERN IRAQ, API SCOUTED 200 KILOMETERS OF NEW TRAIL, CONNECTING THE SILK ROAD CITIES OF AMEDI AND RUWANDUZ, AND ACCESSING THE SHANIDAR CAVE, WHERE HUMAN BEINGS SETTLED SOME 30,000 YEARS AGO. IN NOVEMBER 2019 WE LAUNCHED AN INAUGURAL WALK ON THE NASCENT TRAIL AS PART OF THE ABRAHAM PATH EXPERIENCES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. API FELLOWS CONTINUED EXPLORING NEW GEOGRAPHIES AND DEEPENED GLOBAL APPRECIATION FOR THE DIGNITY OF DISPLACED PERSONS AND MIGRANT FAMILIES FROM THIS BEAUTIFUL-YET-TROUBLED REGION. AS IMPORTANT AS API'S 2019 WORK ON THE GROUND, IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A VIBRANT AND COMPELLING NEW WEBSITE, WHICH TOOK GREAT STRIDES FORWARD IN 2019. THE WEBSITE IS DESIGNED TO LINK LOCAL GUIDES AND HOMESTAY HOSTS WITH POTENTIAL TRAVELERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. ALL OF THIS ACTIVITY SPELLS BENEFIT TO MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES AND OPENS NEW PERSPECTIVES FOR INTERNATIONAL WALKERS. EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM NOT ONLY GENERATES INCOME AND SOCIAL COHESION LOCALLY; WALKING ALSO CREATES SPACE FOR PEOPLE TO ENVISION FRESH SOLUTIONS TO LONG-STANDING CHALLENGES. WITH SUPPORT FROM FOUNDATIONS AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS, API CONTINUES ITS GAME-CHANGING ADVENTURE IN OUR SECOND DECADE, OPERATIONALLY VIBRANT AND FRUITFUL.
