WHEATON ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTER'S MISSION IS TO ENGAGE ARTISTS AND AUDIENCES IN AN EVOLVING EXPLORATION OF CREATIVITY. PRIMARY PROGRAMS ARE PRESENTED BY THE CENTER'S MUSEUM OF AMERICAN GLASS, DOWN JERSEY FOLKLIFE CENTER, CREATIVE GLASS CENTER OF AMERICA, AND THE CENTER'S PUBLIC ACCESS STUDIOS. EDUCATION PROGRAMS SERVE A BROAD RANGE OF ADULTS AND CHILDREN, MANY FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
WHEATON ARTS & CULTURAL CENTER, INC. ENGAGES ARTISTS AND AUDIENCES IN AN EVOLVIING EXPLORATION OF CREATIVITY. THE MISSION WILL BE ADVANCED THROUGH THE INTERPRETATION OF COLLECTIONS, EXHIBITIONS, EDUCATIONAL INCHENTIVES AND CULTURALLY DIVERSE PROGRAMS.
MUSEUM OF AMERICAN GLASS: THE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN GLASS COLLECTS, PRESERVES, EXHIBITS, AND INTERPRETS GLASS MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE MUSEUM HOUSES A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION OF AMERICAN GLASS RANGING FROM THE FIRST GLASS MADE IN AMERICA TO CONTEMPORARY GLASS ART. THE MUSEUM AND LIBRARY ARE A PRIMARY RESOURCE FOR SCHOLARS, COLLECTORS, STUDENTS, AND ARTISTS. THE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN GLASS WAS RE-ACCREDITED IN 2013.
WHEATON GLASS STUDIO: THE GLASS STUDIO OFFERS ONGOING HOT GLASS DEMONSTRATIONS TO THE PUBLIC. A "MAKE YOUR OWN" GLASS PROGRAM OFFERS UP TO 700 PEOPLE A YEAR THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE GLASS PAPERWEIGHTS,VESSELS AND BEADS. THREE NARRATED DEMONSTRATIONS PER DAY OFFER FAMILIES, CULTURAL TOURISTS, AND THOUSANDS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN (APPROXIMATELY 60,000 TOTAL) AN EDUCATIONAL OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY AND PROCESS OF GLASSMAKING. OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS INCLUDE SHORT TERM RESIDENCIES, INTERNSHIPS, AND RENTAL OPPORTUNITIES. THE STUDIO ALSO SUPPORTS A VOLUNTEER TRAVELING FURNACE IMPACTING APPROXIMATELY 75,000 PEOPLE EACH YEAR AT OFFSITE VENUES.
CREATIVE GLASS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM THE CREATIVE GLASS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM OFFERS DIRECT SUPPORT TO EMERGING AND MID-CAREER ARTISTS WHO WORK WITH GLASS. PRIMARY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A FELLOWSHIP RESIDENCY PROGRAM, STUDIO DEMONSTRATIONS, AND COMMUNITY OPEN STUDIO EVENINGS. OVER 350 FELLOWSHIP RESIDENCIES HAVE BEEN AWARDED TO EMERGING AND MID-CAREER ARTISTS FROM THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND 26 FOREIGN COUNTRIES SINCE 1983.
