JAZZ HOUSE KIDS TRANSFORMS LIVES BY HELPING STUDENTS GAIN AN ARTISTIC EDGE THROUGH MUSIC, MENTORING, EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP. JAZZ HOUSE KIDS HAS GAINED A REPUTATION AS ONE OF THE NATION'S PREEMINENT ARTS EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE ORGANIZATIONS. OUR MISSION IS TO TRANSFORM LIVES BY HELPING STUDENTS GAIN AN ARTISTIC EDGE THROUGH MUSIC, MENTORING, EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP.
IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS: JAZZ HOUSE KIDS MUSIC CLUBS PROVIDE FREE, WEEKLY, IN-SCHOOL INSTRUCTION FOR NEARLY 750 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NEWARK, ELIZABETH AND UNION, INCLUDING STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. EACH STUDENT PARTICIPATES IN SMALL GROUP LESSONS, ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS, SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY CONCERTS AND MASTERCLASSES.
MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL: PRESENTED ANNUALLY SINCE 2010, THE MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL ("MJF") HAS GROWN TO BECOME NEW JERSEY'S LARGEST, FREE JAZZ FESTIVAL WITH MORE THAN 15,000 ATTENDEES. EACH AUGUST THE TWO-WEEK FESTIVAL IS PRESENTED AT VENUES ACROSS MONTCLAIR AND CULMINATES WITH A FREE, NINE-HOUR GRAND FINALE AT MONTCLAIR'S NISHUANE PARK. THE MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL IS ONE OF THE ONLY JAZZ FESTIVALS IN THE NATION THAT FEATURES INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED JAZZ ARTISTS PERFORMING SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH YOUNG, ASPIRING EMERGING MUSICIANS. THE MJF IS JAZZ HOUSE KIDS' BIGGEST EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE PROGRAM OF THE YEAR.
JAZZ HOUSE SUMMER WORKSHOP: THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED JAZZ HOUSE SUMMER WORKSHOP IS AN INTENSIVE, 100-HOUR PROGRAM LED BY SIX-TIME GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING BASSIST CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE. IT SERVES 125 STUDENTS AGES 12-19 FROM NEW JERSEY, ACROSS THE EAST COAST AND ABROAD. MORE THAN 40% OF STUDENTS ARE OFFERED NEED-BASED TUITION ASSISTANCE. STUDENTS COLLABORATE WITH 25 TOP JAZZ ARTISTS AND EDUCATORS, AND PERFORM AT WORLD-CLASS JAZZ CLUBS PLUS JAZZ HOUSE KIDS' MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL.
