TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS.
MORRIS ARTS' MISSION IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS WITH ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY ARTS EVENTS, SUPPORT OF LOCAL ARTISTS AND ORGANIZATIONS AND ADVOCACY FOR FUNDING FOR THE ARTS.
Arts in Education programs reached approximately 124,479 children and included the contracting of 24 Arts Plus residencies in schools which directly involved over 4,752 students in in-depth interdisciplinary programs with professional teaching artists. Seventeen residencies were canceled or postponed due to COVID-19. Our Literacy Arts program, Her Words, benefitting challenged high school students, continued uninterrupted through the end of July changing from in person to virtual sessions. The Mentoring program for high school students ran from September to March and completed the school year program remotely.
Arts Participation/Advocacy: The Arts participations programs make Arts programming available to the public with a goal to foster broad, deep and diverse cultural arts participation throughout Morris County.Advocacy Focuses on efforts to make the arts a vibrant and sustainable part of the community. It includes a scholarship program for high school students in Morris County and an Annual free celebration of the Arts that recognizes the contributions of individuals and organizations to the Arts in the Morris Area, and a career development workshop for Artists. Morris Arts is committed to creative placemaking projects. Creative placemaking is when partners from the public,private,non- profit and community sectors strategically shape the physical and social character of neighborhood,town,city or region around arts and cultural activities. Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces,rejuvinates structures and streetscapes,improves local business visibility and public safety and brings diverse people together to celebrate,inspire and to be inspired.
The Local Arts program provides support for our community of artists and arts organizations including technical assistance workshops,networking opportunities and an on-line community presence that focuses on the flow of information to Artists and Arts organisation regarding professional opportunities. It also regrants funds from the NJSCA to 26 Morris county Arts organizations.
