THE MORRIS MUSEUM CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR LIFELONG LEARNING, DISCOVERY, AND CREATIVITY, DRIVEN BY THE CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF ITS GUINNESS COLLECTION OF MECHANICAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND AUTOMATA, AS WELL AS ITS GENERAL COLLECTIONS. THE PERFORMING ARTS ADD FURTHER UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES AND DIMENSIONS OF INTERPRETATION.

FOUNDED IN 1913, THE MORRIS MUSEUM IS ONE OF NEW JERSEY'S OLDEST AND MOST DYNAMIC CULTURAL CENTERS AND THE ONLY SMITHSONIAN AFFILIATED MUSEUM IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY. ITS CHANGING EXHIBITION SCHEDULE DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM ITS PERMANENT COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 40,000 OBJECTS THAT INCLUDES FINE ARTS, CONTEMPORARY CRAFTS, HISTORIC COSTUMES, GEOLOGY, PALEONTOLOGY, AND POPULAR CULTURE. THE MUSEUM'S ROLE AS A TEACHING INSTITUTION IS EVIDENT IN THE EXTENSIVE ONSITE FIELD TRIP EXPERIENCES AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN THE ARTS AND SCIENCES OFFERED TO STUDENTS FROM THROUGHOUT THE STATE, AND THE POPULAR MUSEUM LOAN DEPARTMENT THAT LENDS MORE THAN 1,400 PORTABLE EXHIBITS TO SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES AND COMMUNITY CENTERS. THE MUSEUM'S COMPREHENSIVE, YEAR ROUND SCHEDULE OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS INCLUDES ART TALK TOURS, STUDIO ART COURSES, SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAYS, TEA AND TREASURES FROM THE VAULT, HOME SCHOOL ADVENTURES, SCHOOL VACATION WORKSHOPS, GUIDED GALLERY PROGRAMS, ALONG WITH MEMBER PREVIEW OPENINGS AND TOURS. THEMED FESTIVALS ENTERTAIN AND THRILL FAMILIES ON TOPICS RANGING FROM DINOSAURS TO DR. SEUSS. EVEN THE YOUNGEST MEMBER OF THE FAMILY IS WELCOMED TO THE MUSEUM WITH MONTHLY TOT TOURS. EXPANDED VISITOR AMENITIES AND SERVICES ARE DESIGNED TO SERVE AND ENGAGE VISITORS OF ALL AGES, INTERESTS, AND ABILITIES. THE OPEN AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE OF THE MUSEUM ENCOURAGES VISITORS TO LINGER, TO EXPLORE, TO CREATE, AND TO LEARN.THE MAJORITY OF THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN PUT ON HOLD SINCE MARCH, 2020 DUE TO COVID-19.
THE ONLY MUSEUM IN THE STATE WITH A FULLY RIGGED PROSCENIUM THEATRE, THE BICKFORD THEATRE AT THE MORRIS MUSEUM SERVES 20,000 PATRONS ANNUALLY WITH LIVE PERFORMANCES CONSISTING OF THEATRE, DANCE, CLASSICAL MUSIC, AND JAZZ. IN 2019, THE MUSEUM LAUNCHED A NEW SERIES, LIVE ARTS AT THE MORRIS MUSEUM, WHICH CONNECTS THEMES AND IDEAS BETWEEN THE STAGE AND THE MUSEUM'S GALLERIES. IN ADDITION, THE THEATRE PRESENTS CHILDREN'S THEATRE, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND A SPEAKERS SERIES TO ENGAGE A BROAD SPECTRUM OF ITS CONSTITUENTS. THE MAJORITY OF THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN PUT ON HOLD SINCE MARCH, 2020 DUE TO COVID-19.
