ANNUAL & REGIONAL MEETINGS:ANNUAL MEETING - THE ASHI ANNUAL MEETING, HELD EACH FALL, PROVIDES MEMBERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION. PLENARY SESSIONS OFFER THE LATEST RESEARCH FINDINGS OF INTEREST IN BOTH SCIENTIFIC AND CLINICAL AREAS. CONCURRENT BASIC RESEARCH AND CLINICAL SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL MEMBERS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND TO INTERACT WITH COLLEAGUES IN THEIR OWN AREAS OF EXPERTISE. ADDITIONAL PRESENTATIONS INCLUDE BOTH ORAL ABSTRACT AND POSTER SESSIONS. EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS PROVIDE LECTURES AND INTERACTIVE DISCUSSIONS ON SPECIALIZED TOPICS. EXHIBITS OF COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS AND INFORMATION OF INTEREST TO THE MEMBERSHIP ARE ALSO ON DISPLAY.REGIONAL MEETINGS - THE ASHI REGIONAL EDUCATION WORKSHOPS, HELD IN THE SPRING AND EARLY SUMMER, ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE GREATER GEOGRAPHICAL ACCESSIBILITY TO CONTINUING EDUCATION. THESE WORKSHOPS EMPHASIZE TOPICS SELECTED FROM ASHI'S ANNUAL MEETINGS AND ARE DESIGNED TO MEET THE SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL NEEDS IN THE RAPIDLY GROWING FIELDS OF HISTOCOMPATIBILITY AND IMMUNOGENETICS.ASHI OFFERS MEMBERSHIPS FOR CLINICAL AND RESEARCH PROFESSIONALS INCLUDING IMMUNOLOGISTS, GENETICISTS, MOLECULAR BIOLOGISTS, TRANSPLANT PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS, PATHOLOGISTS AND TECHNOLOGISTS TO ADVANCE THE SCIENCE, EDUCATION AND APPLICATION OF IMMUNOGENETICS AND TRANSPLANT IMMUNOLOGY.

PROFICIENCY TESTING: ASHI PROVIDES A PROFICIENCY TESTING PROGRAM FOR CLINICAL HISTOCOMPATIBILITY TESTING LABORATORIES. THE PROGRAM'S FOUR SURVEY CATEGORIES ARE DESIGNED TO EMULATE ROUTINE CLINICAL TESTING: HLA TYPING, HLA-B27 DETECTION, ENGRAFTMENT MONITORING; AND, CROSSMATCHING AND ANTIBODY SCREENING/IDENTIFICATION.

ACCREDITATION: THE OBJECTIVE OF ASHI'S LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM IS TO MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF RELIABILITY AND QUALITY IN HISTOCOMPATIBILITY TESTING LABORATORIES. THE ACCREDITATION PROGRAM EVALUATES LABORATORY PERSONNEL, PROCEDURES AND FACILITIES TO DETERMINE IF THEY ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH ASHI STANDARDS AND WITH THOSE STANDARDS OF ORGANIZATIONS WHICH HAVE GRANTED ASHI DEEMED STATUS. IT PROMOTES THE EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS OF THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS, PARTICULARLY IN ASSISTING LABORATORIES IN THE CORRECTION OF DEFICIENCIES, AND MAINTAINS THE SOCIETY'S AWARENESS OF STANDARD AND NOVEL TESTING PROCEDURES AND METHODOLOGIES.
