Organizations Filed Purposes: The Institute for Domestic and International Affairs, Inc. (IDIA) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing innovative educational opportunities to students of all ages so they may better understand their role in global and domestic civil society. In order for the voting age population to be active participants in government and community, it is important that younger populations have an in-depth and compelling understanding of their responsibilities both to their government and to their fellow citizens.

Rutgers Model United Nations 2017 welcomed 1,068 students from 44 individual secondary schools in the tri-state area and beyond. The 26th consecutive edition of RUMUN, the conference continued a recent trend of extremely well-attended Fall programming for IDIA. The conferences theme of Global Disparities invited students to debate topics like income inequality and resource scarcity in the context of real-world UN committees like the World Health Organization and Commission on the Status of Women. Students also learned life skills and specialized topics from guest speakers and invited workshop facilitators. To facilitate attendance from Tier I and other underserved or underprivileged schools, IDIA administered approximately $5,290 in grants, financial assistance, and fee waivers.

Philadelphia Model United Nations 2018 brought 465 students from approximately 21 schools to the historic Old City neighborhood for four days of diplomacy simulation. This years edition of PhilMUN focused on the theme of 'Identity in the Global Age', with a regional focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Students were tasked with examining Latin American states through the lens of UN bodies such as the Security Council and the Standing Committee on Refugees. Along the way, students were asked to challenge the notion of Latin America as a single homogenous identity and instead examine the many cross-cutting cultures, ideologies, and issues present in the region on their own terms. IDIA disbursed approximately $2,946 in reduced or eliminated conference and lodging fees for students based on individual and school need.

Rutgers Model Congress 2018 welcomed approximately 347 students from 15 schools in the tri-state area and beyond. As always, RMC provided students an opportunity to examine domestic issues and wield the weight of binding mock legislation as they debated the pressing questions of the conference. The theme of RMC 2018 was The State of American Democracy. Amid rising tensions in the political arena and fresh questions about just how democratic our institutions of government are, have been, and will remain in the future, students participated in committees such as the Senate Judiciary, House Oversight and Government Reform, and a simulation of the Supreme Court. Students were guided in the debate process by more than 20 Rutgers undergraduate volunteers who staffed all aspects of the conference. IDIA disbursed approximately $1,211 in the form of fee waivers for RMC 2018.
