Organizations Filed Purposes:
NEWARK EDUCATORS' COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL (NECCS) IS AN ENGAGING LEARNING COMMUNITY. NECCS SUPPORTS THE HOLISTIC GROWTH OF CHILDREN AND EDUCATORS. IT IS A PLACE WHERE CULTURE, COMMUNITY, AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE COME TOGETHER. NECCS IS COMMITTED TO (1) CREATE A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS, STAFF, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY, (2) BELIEVE THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN AND WILL ACHIEVE THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL, (3) PRESENT OURSELVES AS CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONALS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES, (4) RESEARCH BEST PRACTICES AND PROMISE TO REALIZE THEM IN OUR CLASSROOMS, (5) SUPPORT FAMILIES WHO NEED OUR ASSISTANCE, AND (6) COLLABORATE WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR STUDENTS.
AT NEWARK EDUCATORS' COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL (NECCS), OUR CURRICULUM AND MAJOR ACTIVITIES ARE BASED ON FIVE VALUES: 1) INCLUDING ALL STUDENTS - WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO A BRIGHT FUTURE. OUR FLEXIBLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ALLOWS FOR THE NEEDS OF EACH CHILD TO BE CONSIDERED AND TO ENSURE THAT EVERY STUDENT REACHES THEIR FULL POTENTIAL; 2) CREATING A DYNAMIC AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT - OUR RESPONSIVE APPROACH TURNS THE CLASSROOM INTO AN INTERACTIVE OBJECT AND ENGAGES STUDENTS BASED ON THEIR INTERESTS. OUR CURRICULUM GOES BEYOND THE BASICS TO INCLUDE SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS SUCH AS SCIENCE, ARTS, AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION; 3) PREPARING STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE - WE BELIEVE SUCCESS INCLUDES ACADEMIC AND LIFE SKILLS; 4) FOSTERING DEDICATED TEACHERS AND MENTORS - ONE OF THE THINGS WE ARE MOST PROUD OF AT OUR SCHOOL IS OUR COMMITTED STAFF; AND AND 5) BUILDING A HAPPY AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE CHILDREN ARE EXCITED TO COME EVERY DAY.
DURING FISCAL YEAR 2019-2020, NECCS PROVIDED A FULL RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES APPROPRIATE TO GRADE LEVELS PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 4. THIS INCLUDED REGULAR STUDENT ENROLLMENT AND CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS. IT COMPLETED THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR WITH AN AVERAGE DAILY ENROLLMENT OF 265 STUDENTS. ITS SERVICE APPROACH (1) CREATED A SUSTAINABLE POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE THAT IS OPTIMAL FOR LEARNING, (2) MET THE NEEDS OF THE WHOLE CHILD (SCHOOL, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY, (3) INVOLVED FAMILIES AND EARNING COMMUNITY SUPPORT, (4) MEASURED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN MULTIPLE WAYS: NEW JERSEY STATE TESTS, WRITTEN PORTFOLIOS,READING AND MATH ASSESSMENTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE PROJECTS THAT DEMONSTRATE ACADEMIC PROGRESS, (4) SUPPORTED STUDENTS AS CRITICAL THINKERS, AND (5) DEVELOPED IN STUDENTS THE CONFIDENCE TO CONFRONT ALL CHALLENGES AS A FOUNDATION FOR PERSONAL AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND BEYOND.
NECCS PROVIDED NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED, LOW COST OR FREE MEALS TO CHILDREN EACH SCHOOL DAY THROUGH ITS BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAMS. THE PROGRAMS ARE FEDERALLY AND STATE ASSISTED. IN FY 2020, IT ALSO HAD AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR WORKING PARENTS NEEDING A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR CHILDREN AFTER SCHOOL.
NECCS IMPLEMENTED THE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM WAS ENACTED BY CONGRESS TO REAUTHORIZE THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT WITH MAJOR FOCUS ON PROVIDING ALL CHILDREN WITH FAIR, EQUAL AND SIGNIFICANT OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION THROUGH ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES.
