COMMUNITY IMPACT: SINCE COVID-19 UNITED WAY OF GREATER NEWARK'S COMMUNITY COVID-19 FUND RAISED MORE THAN $4.9 MILLION TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. OUR COMMUNITY COVID-19 FUND INCLUDED SMALL BUSINESS GRANTS, EMERGENCY FOOD AID AND THE PARENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM. UNITED WAY OF GREATER NEWARK RECEIVED OVER 900 APPLICATIONS, REWARDED 134 SMALL BUSINESSES GRANTS, AND AWARDED MORE THAN $1 MILLION TO BUSINESSES IN NEED IN NEWARK. UWGN PARTNERED WITH THE COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF NEW JERSEY, THE SALVATION ARMY AND MEND TO FACILITATE FOOD DISTRIBUTION EFFORTS IN NEWARK AND VARIOUS PARTS OF NEW JERSEY. WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 200,000 POUNDS OF FOOD WITH THE SUPPORT OF 16 PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. THE PARENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM WAS LAUNCHED IN JULY TO CONNECT DONORS WITH YOUNG PARENTS IN DESPERATE NEED OF FORMULA AND DISPOSABLE DIAPERS. PARTNERSHIPS INCLUDE: ISAIAH HOUSE, APOSTLE HOUSE, 211 STRATEGIES AND TREE HOUSE CARES. ALL ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED FORMULA, BABY FOOD, BABY FURNITURE, AND BOOKS.

PROGRAM VITA PROGRAM:NEWARK FREE TAX PREP IS A PROGRAM INITIATIVE UNDER THE NEWARK ASSET BUILDING COALITION (NABC) THAT PROVIDES FREE TAX PREP SERVICES THROUGH THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (VITA) SPONSORED BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS). THROUGH THE NEWARK FREE TAX PROGRAM, WE OFFER FREE TAX HELP TO PEOPLE WITH $56,000 OR LESS TAXABLE INCOME ON THEIR TAX RETURN. NEWARK FREE TAX PREP HAS BEEN CRUCIAL IN HELPING HARD-WORKING FAMILIES IN NEWARK TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL OF THE TAX CREDITS THEY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR INCLUDING THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC), CHILD TAX CREDIT (CTC), AND EDUCATION CREDITS. THROUGH THE NEWARK FREE TAX PREP PROGRAM, TAX RETURNS ARE PREPARED BY TRAINED AND CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERS.SPONSORED BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS), VITA PROVIDES FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH A HOUSEHOLD INCOME OF LESS THAN $53,000 A YEAR.
