WOODLANDS WILDLIFE REFUGE RECEIVED AND CARED FOR 1,407 ORPHANED OR INJURED NATIVE WILD ANIMALS OF 43 SPECIES FROM 18 COUNTIES AND ACCOMPLISHED A HIGH RELEASE RATE. IN ADDITION TO OUR SMALL STAFF, 40 VOLUNTEERS AND 5 UNPAID INTERNS PROVIDED CARE FOR THE ANIMALS. APPROXIMATELY 12,069 VOLUNTEER HOURS WITH A VALUE OF 306,915 AND 1,434 INTERN HOURS WITH A VALUE OF 36,467, WERE WORKED DURING THE YEAR.
WOODLANDS WILDLIFE REFUGE PRESENTED 32 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO VOLUNTEERS, SCHOOLS, CORPORATIONS AND VARIOUS OTHER GROUPS. WE ALSO RESPONDED TO APPROXIMATELY 3,850 TELEPHONE CALLS RELATING TO WILDLIFE QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS FROM RESIDENTS OF 18 COUNTIES.
WOODLANDS WILDLIFE REFUGE SOLD "BROKE LEG BEAR" BOOKS, WHICH IS AN EDUCATIONAL CHILDREN'S BOOK. IT TELLS THE TRUE STORY OF AN INJURED BEAR CUB THAT WOODLANDS REHABILITATED AND SUCCESSFULLY RELEASED BACK INTO THE WILD.
