THE NETWORK OF USERS OF CLIMATE MATTERS CONTENT CONTINUED TO EXPAND IN 2019. THERE WAS AN ADDITION OF 156 METEOROLOGISTS AND 216 NEWSROOM JOURNALISTS TO THE PROGRAM. OUR INDEPENDENT RESEARCH IS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE THE PUBLIC BY ILLUMINATING THE SCIENTIFIC FACTS OF CLIMATE, USING PIONEERING ANALYSIS AND DATA VISUALIZATION TECHNIQUES. OUR SURGING SEAS PROGRAM AND ITS SUITE OF INTERACTIVE WEB-BASED TOOLS DEPICTING THREATS FROM SEA LEVEL RISE AND COASTAL FLOODING CONTINUE TO BE USED TO INFORM RISK ASSESSMENTS, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EFFORTS, COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES, AND POLICY ANALYSES. THE SEA LEVEL RISE SCIENTISTS COMPLETED WORK ON THE NEXT GENERATION OF GLOBAL MAPS, COASTAL/DEMTM. THE IMPROVED TOOL ALLOWED FOR GREATER PRECISION IN THE ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACTS OF SEA LEVEL RISE ON SENSITIVE AREAS OF RISK SUCH AS AFFORDABLE HOUSING EXPOSED TO COASTAL FLOOD RISK. THE RESEARCH CONDUCTED AND THE FINALIZED COASTAL/DEMTM TOOL HIGHLIGHTED A THREEFOLD INCREASE IN THE ESTIMATES OF GLOBAL VULNERABILITY TO SEA-LEVEL RISE AND COASTAL FLOODING. THE NEW MAPS WERE RELEASED IN OCTOBER 2019.THE PAPER RELEASED IN SUPPORT OF THE COASTAL DEMTM RESEARCH AND TOOLS WAS THE #1 CLIMATE SCIENCE PAPER OF 2019.IN 2019, CLIMATE CENTRAL EXTENDED THE ENTERPRISE PROGRAM WHICH FOCUSES ON MARKETING AND LICENSING ORGANIZATIONAL TOOLS AND DATA TO DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN CORPORATIONS SUCH AS INSURANCE AND REAL ESTATE COMPANIES, RATING AGENCIES AND NATIONAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES.OUTREACH AND EDUCATION CONTINUED TO BE A KEY COMPONENT OF DELIVERING THE SEA LEVEL RISE INFORMATION TO AUDIENCES MOST IMPACTED.
