Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PRESERVE AND CARE FOR LAND, AND TO INSPIRE A CONSERVATION ETHIC, NOW AND FOR THE FUTURE.

PERMANENT PROTECTION OF LAND IS THE HEART OF D&R GREENWAY'S MISSION. THIS WORK IS GUIDED BY A STRATEGIC PLAN AND EVALUATION OF LANDS TO ENSURE THEY MEET KEY CRITERIA INCLUDING, AMONG OTHERS: PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE AND BIRD HABITAT, MIGRATORY CORRIDORS, BIODIVERSITY, AGRICULTURAL SOILS AND SCENIC VIEWS; CONTRIBUTION TO WATER QUALITY ALONG A WATERWAY OR IN A KEY AQUIFER; OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE FOR PUBLIC ACCESSIBILITY AND CONNECTING TRAILS; AND COMMUNITY CONSERVATION. THE MAJORITY OF PROTECTED LANDS AND CONSERVATION AND AGRICULTURAL EASEMENTS ARE PURCHASED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GOVERNMENT PARTNERS, OTHER CONSERVATION NONPROFITS AND WITH PRIVATE SUPPORT. D&R GREENWAY HAS ESTABLISHED A REVOLVING LAND FUND WITH PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD THIS PURPOSE. THROUGH STEWARDSHIP AND PROTECTION OF THESE LANDS, D&R GREENWAY PROVIDES A PUBLIC BENEFIT INCLUDING A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT, LOCAL FOODS, RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR AREA RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.

D&R GREENWAY INSPIRES PEOPLE TO LEARN ABOUT AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH PROGRAMMING AND EXHIBITS THAT CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE LAND. THIS INCLUDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS BY THOUGHT LEADERS AT THE JOHNSON EDUCATION CENTER IN PRINCETON, ART EXHIBITS THAT HIGHLIGHT THE VALUES AND BEAUTY OF NATURE AND AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPES, GUIDED WALKS ON D&R GREENWAY PRESERVES, AND VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THAT ENGAGE INDIVIDUALS DIRECTLY IN THE WORK OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THAT TEACH SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP. BY LEADING A VISION TO CREATE AN URBAN FARM IN TRENTON, D&R GREENWAY IS INSPIRING A HEALTHY ATTITUDE TOWARD GROWING AND EATING HEALTHY FOODS IN AN UNDERSERVED POPULATION. THESE ACTIVITIES SEEK TO ENSURE A GREEN FUTURE BY INSPIRING INDIVIDUALS TO MAKE THOUGHTFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE DECISIONS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT.

THE NATIVE PLANT NURSERY IS DEDICATED TO RESTORING A RICH DIVERSITY OF NATIVE FLORA TO THE LOCAL LANDSCAPE. IT SUPPLIES NATIVE PLANTS FOR D&R GREENWAY'S STEWARDSHIP WORK, THE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY, AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, SO THAT THE RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE MIGHT BE RE-KNIT WITH THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE.
