A 28-acre public garden, Greenwood Gardens seeks to connect people with nature through guided tours and programs in horticulture, history, conservation and the arts, and special events. We are supported by public visitation, memberships, donations and volunteers. The mission of Greenwood Gardens is: connecting people with nature in a historic garden oasis.Explanation of Classes of Members or Shareholder -Membership allows members free admission to the gardens; a subscription to Seasons, the Greenwood Gardens Journal; early notice of and discounted tickets to programs, workshops and other events; reciprocal membership privileges at more than 300 gardens.
Greenwoods goal is to preserve, restore and enhance its historic gardens, architecture and landscape for the education and enjoyment of the general public. Since opening to the public in 2013, thousands of visitors have come through our gates to take advantage of the peace, beauty and history the site affords and to learn about the two main families that made an impact on the site over the course of a century. In September of 2020, after being closed for a year, Greenwood reopened with significant renovations made to much of the property including the additions of a new rain garden, renovated Main Axis with working fountains, restored historic views, new plantings and landscaping, expanded parking, and increased seating throughout the garden. These have greatly enhanced the visitor experience and have led to record visitation during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 when the public has been in dire need of a safe, outdoor haven in which to rejuvenate and find respite.
During this time of pandemic, Greenwood revamped its regular programming that features presentations on nature, horticulture, arts, history and the environment to offer greater accessibility to audiences through an online format. In addition to providing education and entertainment, these programs help foster an appreciation of the importance of garden preservation, a respect for the environment and an opportunity to explore the timeless relationship between people and nature.
