Organizations Filed Purposes:
ELFNJ was founded to advance the governance of New Jersey's public schools, through training and research. To accomplish that, it works with the New Jersey School Boards Association, by securing resources to support school board professional development.
Advance public education governance through training, research, and attaining grants to further professional development.
The two-and-a-half day New Board Member Orientation provides a significant, positive, impact on educational policy making and on student learning in New Jersey. ELFNJ also received lodging with a combined value of $56,836 for the two weekend programs.
County programs offer training close to home through County School Board Associations. Each County hosts events throughout the year on topics of interest. These include: school law - the use of social media by board members, building community partnerships, student safety and cyber security, budget/ finance - the boards's role in the budget, crisis management, STEM/STEAM, sustainability, the arts in education and regionalization. Over 4,000 board members registered for these meetings during the year.
A Leadership Training Weekend featured sessions such as "The Sucessful Board President;" "Keeping Your Board Focused on Student Achievement;" "Board President and Superintendent Relationships;X and "Winning Community Support" for 100 school board leaders.
